My arabian son pointed it out the other day when we were driving together. Is the sensor on top of the traffic light a camera?
Yes , and camera flash light will work if you pass pedistrain lines. Is the sensor on top of the traffic light a camera?
Most are stobe sensors and if you have a handheld flood light you can test them out. Sweep the beam back and forth across the sensor.
Some make all 4 dirrections go RED, so the emergecy vehicles can slip past on the wrong side of the street, and others hold the GREEN light so they can move with the traffic. In some cities, the GREEN hold is even used on the busses, which typically stop just short of the corner to unload passengers, and hold up all the cars behind them. We've had them in LA for about 40 years. Is the sensor on top of the traffic light a camera?
No. It's an infrared sensor. It is used by emergency vehicles approaching the light to turn the light green. They have a special transmitter to do that.
In my town in northern CA it is a camera on the top of the traffic light.

Just wondering what this camera is on top of the traffic lights?
theres a camera on top of the traffic light at an intersection, but its only on top the west bound direction, nothing on top of the other 3 directions. so im just wondering could it be a red light camera? o__0 or what is it?Just wondering what this camera is on top of the traffic lights?
It's not a camera. It's a signal picker-upper for when emergency vehicles come through that intersection to turn the right place green so the emergency vehicles can get through easier. Watch it when an ambulance goes through cuz the ones in my area flash white when that happens to show an override of normal traffic patterns.Just wondering what this camera is on top of the traffic lights?
Traffic Cam?Just wondering what this camera is on top of the traffic lights?
I wouldn't speed if i were you. It's definitely a T.cam.

Are ANPR cameras used only in Police Traffic Cars?
Answers needed as soon as possible... ThanksAre ANPR cameras used only in Police Traffic Cars?
No ANPR cameras can be positioned on motorway bridges, or in Police vans, in fact they can put them anywhere. Also VOSA (The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) have ANPR fitted to some of their vehicles, they drive around car parks and motorways, they do not have the authority to stop you but they usually have a Police car nearby if they need to pull someone over.
Airboy is correct. However i would just like to add, some police helicopters have ANPR.Are ANPR cameras used only in Police Traffic Cars?
no they can have ANPR vans which can be situated at the side of roads or on bridges (the same as with mobile speed camera vans and that) and fixed anpr cameras (work in the same way as speed cameras wd with people breaking the speed limit) are becoming more n more popular in some parts of the country as well so it's not worth the risk, you'd b very lucky to get away with driving without insurance, tax, mot etc these days
Just to add to airboy's answer, VOSA now DO have the power to stop.
Also there are VED (road tax) cameras that are set up separately often on a tripod at the side of the rd. They read the barcode on the disc.
Tax, MOT and Insurance is all on a database now, you can check to make sure your vehicle has insurance cover on askmid.com and the DVLA site will tell you if it's taxed and give you the MOT status. Are ANPR cameras used only in Police Traffic Cars?
The KFC in Stirling has ANPR cameras to enforce the parking regulation of a maximum stay of 1 hr. it is in the centre of Stirling and people were trying to park there for the whole day and customers couldn't get in.

Can I take the 12 hour traffic school for a red light camera ticket?
I had recently just finished traffic school back in march for failure to yield for a pedestrian.... I have now received A red light camera ticket for not making a complete stop before making the right hand turn. since I have done traffic school in the past 18 months, would i qualify for the 12 hours traffic school and would it keep from having my insurance go up? how many points do you get for that ticket, btw, im from california. Can I take the 12 hour traffic school for a red light camera ticket?
you would have to check with the courts that you went to for the ticket. some states and counties have different laws. some tickets you cant to go traffic school if the points are not at least 3 points. others you can go for a 1 point infraction. i believe that a red light running is 3 points. not sure but believe that is the amount. i live in nevada but lived in california for many years.oil change college books

How do i check to see if i have been ticketed by a traffic light camera?
I understand they mail them to you but is there a way to find out before you get the ticket. How do i check to see if i have been ticketed by a traffic light camera?
Hi,
If you know the county where your ran the light and the plate info you can look it up under county court info or call your local DMV to find out how. Wish I could be more helpful but you did not list the state.
Best of luck~
If you do not get a ticket in the mail within 21 days after the incident when you thought you might have been caught by a red light camera, then you will most likely not be getting a ticket.

Traffic light camera at intersection, yet no sign notifying as such?
I got a ticket at an intersection (in California) as a result of a camera filming me run a red light. I've looked all over and I still cannot find a posted sign that indicates that intersection is being filmed, this seems illegal and I'm having trouble finding information on these laws, any information would be greatly appreciated.Traffic light camera at intersection, yet no sign notifying as such?
There does not have to be a posted sign, but check with your local roads authority.
Don't know if you've found your silver bullet here. You are correct about the signs needing to be present, but read carefully to see where they have to be posted:
(1) Identifies the system by signs that clearly indicate the
system's presence and are visible to traffic approaching from all
directions, or posts signs at all major entrances to the city,
including, at a minimum, freeways, bridges, and state highway routes.
This is from 21455.5 of the California Vehicle Code, which you can read for yourself here:

Good luck.Traffic light camera at intersection, yet no sign notifying as such?
well, running a red light is wrong. So it's a good idea to have a camera so if people run the light, they know. But I don't know anything about being illegal. Teaches you a lesson not to run red lights though
So your defense is that you run them only when there's no camera.Traffic light camera at intersection, yet no sign notifying as such?
even if there is no sign, you should still have to obey the law.
There does not need to be a sign indicating that traffic cameras are being used. You will not be able to get the pictures thrown out of evidence either.
The camera was positioned on public property and the pictures were taken in an area where there is no expectation of privacy (a public road). When you are in public you can have your picture taken at any time, and there is not thing one you can do about it.
I have never seen a police department put up signs indicating that a patrol car is enforcing speed limits using radar ahead ... and tickets written under those circumstances hold up quite well in court.
You were looking DOWN while driving into an intersection? Yikes! Glad you are driving in California and not New York ... we have enough lousy drivers here as it is!
not only they don't have to tell you but they rather you not know so you can continue your natural driving patterns
