Are those little black/Grey Boxes on top of traffic lights, sensors or cameras?

I was just wondering if anyone could help me. I was out driving the other night and i have only recently passed my test, and i think i may have ran a red light, there was a little grey camera type box on the traffic light, i was that worried i had to go back and have a look what it was. My dad said it was probably just a sensor, but i'm really not to sure, does anyone have a clue?



I didn't see a light flash or anything when i went throught it, and there was no gasto like cameras about. Sorry im just really worried.

They are sensors which detect motion. which in turn activate the lights
ha these are only sensors, but be more careful they are making new lights with cameras built inside the red light and wen you brake these red lights it will take your pic..... so if u do brake a red light make sure ta smileAre those little black/Grey Boxes on top of traffic lights, sensors or cameras?

This was an infra red sensor, monitors the flow of traffic to sequence change of lights.

All legal UK traffic cameras are and must be coloured yellow by law.
Little boxes sensors.

Bigger boxes cameras.
Rather than worry about the sensor, worry about the fact that you ran a red light and could have killed someone.
