I noticed on the traffic signal poles some have cameras and others have spotlights with sensors why?

i have never seen the spotlights on can anybody tell me what there for thanksI noticed on the traffic signal poles some have cameras and others have spotlights with sensors why?
These sensors are to enable automated picture taking of vehicles when they run red lights. Try it some time. You'll get a ticket in the mail with a nice snapshot of your car and license plate!

For traffic control, like in the movies when they "hack" into the traffic control system and they can know wich road its empty so they can escape faster and change red lights and all that stuff.



They can also be for air quality control, or a conspiracy of the goverment... make a guess
I don't know where you are from, but in a few places the sensors react to a light on an emergency vehicle to change the light in their favor for more safety in responding to emergencies. The traffic lights with spot lights on them, have a sensor that picks up the white strobe light on emergency vehicles and some wreckers. When the sensor detects the white strobe light, it changes the light to green for the emergency vehicle and the spot light lights. The spot light lets the driver of the emergency vehicle know they have been detected and the light will stay green for them.
