Traffic Light Cameras in UK (UK answers only please)?

I accidentally ran a red light last night but I didn't get a flash from any cameras. I'm a little confused as there are two cameras on the lights I ran through:

One positioned directly on top of the lights (which I assume is for control of traffic) and another set behind the lights on the same post pointing down at the pedestrian crossing region (not sure what the function of this one is). You can see them on Google maps. Could someone enlighten me as to what these cameras actually do and if I was caught would I have been flashed?

Yes, what I did was stupid and it was a total brain-fade. I'm a fairly new but safe driver otherwise with several years no claims etc. Would really appreciate it if someone could put my mind at ease.

I'm in Scotland if that has any relevance

Thanks.Traffic Light Cameras in UK (UK answers only please)?
Keep an eye on ya letter box for the brown envelope, thats your answer, keep ya fingers crossed the postman dont arrive
You may have been lucky in that neither of the cameras may in fact have been a red-light camera.

It sounds like the "camera" pointing at the crossing region was in fact a pedestrian presence detector, like those on Puffin or Toucan crossings, where the system doesn't stop the traffic if it detects the pedestrian has, for example, already crossed on green without waiting. T'other sounds like it was simply a traffic flow monitor. Red-light cameras are usually separate devices, often of the Gatso shape we all know and love.Traffic Light Cameras in UK (UK answers only please)?
The ones on top of traffic lights are NOT cameras - they are microwave sensors to detect the presence of vehicles and pedestrians, and operate the lights accordingly.

Here's a link - scroll down to "Traffic light sensor":

This is what a red light camera looks like:

I very much doubt you will get a ticket. If you (or the registered keeper) of the car has not received a N.I.P within 7 days, forget about it. After that they are out of time and cannot enforce any penalty.

Please remember, these cameras are there to promote safety on our roads, and NEVER, EVER, EVER to raise money for the local SS to justify their existance.Traffic Light Cameras in UK (UK answers only please)?
I am a little confused

"I'm a FAIRLY NEW but safe driver otherwise with SEVERAL YEARS no claims" - a little contradictory !

Some cameras monitor the flow of traffic and change the traffic lights

Others tend to be video cameras so do not flash

We have all "jumped" the lights either just taking a chance or absentmindedly
Some are to scan your bar code in the dash to recognise the car.

Don't know if that's the camera your on about.
