Small black cameras on traffic lights (UK)?

I have noticed recently small black cameras on the top of traffic lights in the Uk. What are they as i stopped at traffic lights earlier and i was over the line because i wouldnt have got through before it went red. Just a little concerned i will get points on my licence. Thanks for your help!Small black cameras on traffic lights (UK)?
The small black boxes are radar motion detectors, they help control the signals based on traffic flow.

I did the same thing this morning. I went through a red light with a black camera on top. Jamie have you have a penalty through the post since you did it?

they do not record you at all the ones that do record you are not on the light itself the little black cameras you Speak of are in deed sensors that will change the light if no oncoming traffic is coming so people are not sitting at a red light longer then they have to.
yes some are cameras and will record if you go through a red light others are used so they can controller traffic
