Traffic light cameras?

i was in manchester today and there was a lot of traffic about. I went through a set of lights and had to stop over the hatching on the road due to the other cars in front. The set of lights had a camera on it (i.e. when you go through on red).



would i have seen it flash - i.e. would it have been obvious.



and would it have thought i was going through on red.

Lol. I've done it before if I'm honest. Luckily I've managed to scoot over to the right-hand lane before the lights changed. Some people seem to do it deliberately though?

you should have stoped before you reached the hatching on the road they are there for a reason blues and twos to pass safely if it was blocked hold back it only means that you have to wait but no it doesn't sound like the camera got you as you would seen it flash!

you should be fine, but you wouldn't know if it took a shot of you since i think its going off all the time, like every sec it takes a pic and then people review it and if they see someone running a light they zoom in and get your plate and look you up, but they probably saw that someone was in front of you, you should be fine. if not that sux and I'm sorry
Not unless you can see in the inferred spectrum. Most traffic light Flash light humans cannot see to avoid distractions. Lens over the licence plate and Photo Blocker spray paint is what we use but both Illegal in the USA.
You should have stopped at the hatched box. This is where advanced driving comes in.



How long have you been driving? If you are a new driver hopefully you will become more aware of these things.
A member of my family was in London driving in traffic that was running sweetly when suddenly it all ground to a stop and he had to stop on the hatchings or collide with the car in front. Although he did not see the camera or a flash, he was filmed. The fine arrived in the post together with photo to prove that he was partly on the hatchings (though only the tail end of the car). It seemed very unjust as no way was it his fault and he is very careful not to enter boxes. So I sympathise with you.

Your only hope is that there was no film in the camera. You should hear within six weeks. Good luck.
The flash will only be obvious at night.
I work for Kent Police. During the training I asked the same question. The camera does take a picture at a set amount of intervals while the lights are red. I was told (so don't hold me to it) that if there are two or three pictures taken in a row with the same car in the same position, it shows that the car didn't run a red light, and no fine will be received.

It also doesn't turn on til 1/2 second - 1 second after the light comes on.

You can only enter hatching if you can see a clear exit or, if you are turning right, then your passage is blocked by traffic coming from the opposite direction.



Drivers who, like you, deliberatly enter the hatching when it is already occupied are adding to traffic congestion. The rules are clearly outlined in the Highway Code (remember that book?; judging by your question, you probably have not read it since passing your driving test.)



If you are not prepared to follow the rules of the road, then you deserve everything coming to you. I hope that the camera took a photo of you. Perhaps, when you pay your fine and present your licence for endorsement, you will also buy a new copy of the Highway Code and study it.
