hi,yesterday i was driving home and went past a sign that said i was doing 35 mph in a 40... i was just wondering are these speed cameras or traffic calming measures? thanks xYour speed is signs.... are they speed cameras? or just traffic calming measures?
Mostly traffic calming measures. Frequently found near construction zones or other areas with reduced speed limits.Your speed is signs.... are they speed cameras? or just traffic calming measures?
I've seen them used for both. If there is a police car nearby, he may be using it as a personal speed gauge for the cars. It is not a calibrated radar system, so not usable in court, but show too high a speed to the policeman and he will probably zap you with his radar within a few seconds. THAT is allowed as evidence! I have "tested" many of the signs and found they were sometimes way off from my actual speed as shown on my GPS. A GPS is much more accurate than a car speedometer.
BTW" If you are using a radar detector, the sign can set it off. That means you won't know if a policeman is also hitting you with radar at the same time.Your speed is signs.... are they speed cameras? or just traffic calming measures?
Not speed cameras. If there was a police car with radar gun you would have been stopped.
in simple answer they are traffic calming... how effective though im not sure!
They are just a traffic calming measure, research has shown these illuminated signs have a positive effect on reducing a driver's speed. Speed cameras do NOT show you the speed you're travelling at !
