or are they just another instrument to steal money from the good people?Do you think traffic speed cameras really reduces the death rate on the roads?
These cameras do NOTHING to prevent accidents. They are nothing but a source of revenue for the city.
They have been proven to reduce collisions and fatalities where they have been placed. As far as getting money from good people, if you aren't breaking the law by speeding, they won't be able to get any money from you. I don't think that it stealing money from good people if they get caught by one.
Nor do I think that there is any proof such things work.
If the object was to reduce accidents, then a higher visibility of law enforcement officers would do the job. But that takes more money then a camera. That is the real point of these camera's, to reduce the cost of traffic enforcement.
There have been many studies that people cherry pick to support their individual view on the subject but if you filter out the bs speed cameras are just revenue generators for the communities and contractors that run them. On the other hand red light cameras have been proven to INCREASE accidents where they are installed. The crashes are less severe but there are more because someone who might make the light legally slams on their brakes to avoid a ticket.Do you think traffic speed cameras really reduces the death rate on the roads?
They hung Dick Turpin and now use his methods to make money.
Who would do such a thing....only the local councils.
No they are an excuse not to put traffic officers out there in cars to catch the bad drivers. Cameras do work in some isolated places but overall the statistics produced by the government themselves prove that they make no significant difference.
Hence, councils can no longer keep the cash generated by speed enforcement for automatic use to install more cameras but have to look at all other means with cameras as a last resort.
