Are mobile speed cameras in vans always placed at back of the van to catch oncoming traffic?

or can they be placed in front or side ways.

They catch you going towards them or going away even though the camera is pointing out the rear or side hatch. It all depends where the operator is pointing the laser at the time. The new vans have video cameras at the front to catch motorcyclists travelling towards them from the rear as when they pass it records the registration plate on video. Are mobile speed cameras in vans always placed at back of the van to catch oncoming traffic?
Normally in the back but can be faced sideways, such as when set up on a bridge. Don't remember seeing them set up facing out the front of the van. This would normally be on a tripod actually set up out front of the van.
