Do handheld speeding cameras catch both lanes of traffic?

i was just driving home and saw a policeman with a camera on a tripod facing the oncoming traffic. i didnt notice it till i had passed so i just wondered if it would only catch the oncoming traffic as it was facing that way, its just i only passed last year and already got 3 for going through a redlight another 3 and i will loose my licence think i was going 35-36 in a 30 thanksDo handheld speeding cameras catch both lanes of traffic?
Hand held laser cameras work by positioning a light beam on the selected car and this gives the speed. You won't know if they got you until you get the dreaded letter through the door.

Easiest way to avoid problems is Don't speed!!
Think they only catch the car its pointing at, such as if your driving towards it and a car in the opposite lane speeds away, he will not catch them because it is pointed at you...they might wave your speed because you weren't going a deadly amount faster, i think you allowed up to 3mph faster than speed limit, but your not that far off.Do handheld speeding cameras catch both lanes of traffic?
Only catches the car is aimed at, ie oncoming. Next time keep at 30
It will pick the car the police is pointing at.I think you are aloud 12 points before they take your lic.different states have there own laws.your insurance will go up.have your speedometer checked if you have doubt or slow down below the speed when you see a cop with a speed trapDo handheld speeding cameras catch both lanes of traffic?
Right now there's no handheld device that can gauge the speed of a vehicle going in the same direction as the device is pointed, but I'm sure they're working on one.The only way you could probably do that is if that handheld device was coupled to a nearby radar tower or satellite, locked onto your position and tried to gauge your speed that way.

Fortunately this probably wouldn't be very accurate and you could always fight it and win in court.
only the car its pointing at...start counting the 14 days. If you don't get anything from postman pat on the 14/15th day (from the date the offense was made) you should be fine. Then learn to keep your speed down.
Hello

They have to be able to target you for a few seconds to get your speed. If traffic is to heavy then they will only get the side they are on with safe results.

Andy C
Handhelds like the 20/20 only pick out the single car being targeted coming towards the unit.

If you are worried then worry for 15 days from the day you think you were caught. If nothing has arrived in the mail by then you are in the clear.

If you did get targeted then you would lose your license as 6 points within 2 years of getting your license is a ban.

After that it is 12 points.
