i recently had an accident at an intersection because the other driver ran a red light. he claims the light was green (which is a lie because i undoubtedly had a green light). since i would like his insurance provider to cover the damages i must prove he is at fault. the intersection has cameras on top of the lights. does anyone have any information on how i could obtain this footage? the officer at the scene said they could be accessed by DOT but i havent found any info regarding it.Obtaining traffic camera footage for recent accident?
I am from Illinois and have been a Patrol Commander and now an Investigations Commander - Those cameras in Illinois and I would suppose nation wide are not always cameras - and are not in Illinois backed up with any hard drive or DVR. They are for monitoring only and some of them are sensor devices used to activate signals changes during off peak hours - like the lines in the pavement in an intersection used to be (or are rapidly becoming extinct)
I had a fatal crash where I was disappointed when I found that IDOT did not back up cameras.Obtaining traffic camera footage for recent accident?
I think that the obvious thing to do would be to call DOT. If the other driver ran the light then he would have received a ticket. You may have to get a subpoena to get the photo.
