Why didn't the traffic light cameras catch kelsy smith's abudctor?

i have actually been to that target before and its surrounded by traffic lights, they have cameras on them too. they only have footage of the truck in the parking lots. Why didn't the traffic light cameras catch kelsy smith's abudctor?
Those boxes you mistake at the top of the traffic lights for cameras are actually sensors. They detect movement from each direction and determine which area has the priority for the right of way in the intersection.

Overland Park only has cameras at a few of the major intersections which are for the traffic department to use.

That particular intersection and the one at 97th and Quivira do not have cameras. The closest traffic light with a camera is the one located at I-435 and Quivira.
Those cameras aren't on full time.

They only turn on if somebody runs a red light. Why didn't the traffic light cameras catch kelsy smith's abudctor?
Traffic light cameras are not running all of the time. They are there to catch red light runners and only activate when somebody runs a red light. The camera doesn't take video, it takes a picture of a driver and the license plate as the vehicle crosses through the intersection.
Traffic lights that have cameras ONLY take pictures when someone drives through a red light. Other than that the cameras dont take and pictures or video. Why didn't the traffic light cameras catch kelsy smith's abudctor?
Traffic light cameras dont run all of the time. They are to catch red light runners and only turn on when you run a red light. The camera doesn't take video, it takes a pic of a driver and the license plate
Because the bad guy(s) didn't run a red light?

good thing... i've seen them take pictures of aggressive drivers... i love it...Are traffic cameras that ticket you for moving violations a good thing or bad thing?
It is a good thing. Are traffic cameras that ticket you for moving violations a good thing or bad thing?
It's a bad thing. Cause even when they aren't looking, big brother is still watching you.
A bad thing! It is like Big Brother has to get involved with everything you do in life!

Anybody know what they've ruled on traffic cameras?

I was under the impression that they deemed the "red light" and "speeding" cameras, unconstitutional. Yet a friend just received a ticket. Has anyone else heard about this. Especially in Ohio?Anybody know what they've ruled on traffic cameras?
I can only answer for Maryland and DC, but I would assume that most jurisdictions are about the same. The tickets received are generally for fines only and are applied against the registered owner of the vehicle. There are no points assesssed against the driving record of the owner. Fighting the ticket is generally useless unless you can prove that the vehicle was stolen before the ticketing event. Otherwise, if you want to claim that you were not driving, you must hand up the person who was driving including name, address lic #, and that person will have to pay the fine.

Yes they are money makers but consider yourself (or your friend) lucky that they did not get a "live" ticket that would have cost points. He/she is also lucky that they did not cause an accident while breaking the law.
Don't you just love spray paint?Anybody know what they've ruled on traffic cameras?
    Traffic cameras at intersections:

Just another legal, money-making racket for a private company, all of the "life-saving" propaganda spewed forth notwithstanding.
There is no constitutional question here. A camera that catches you doing something illegal is fully admissible in court, with one caveat: the camera itself cannot be trespassing or otherwise breaking the law. For the most part, traffic cameras capture images of a public space--from a public space.

That said, the Ohio Legislature has placed some limits on traffic citation cameras. You can read more at:

No they are not....They are legal as a cop seeing you in person.

How traffic cameras affected in winter?

they are affected because, It's so cold out that the battery freezes and makes it look like It has really low battery, so they might not work

Yes/No: Do you hate red-light traffic cameras?

Yes. I haven't gotten a ticket yet but they make me paranoid when the light turns yellow as I'm passing through the intersection.Yes/No: Do you hate red-light traffic cameras?
    No,,
Yes. It is the largest scam in the history of the world. Cities and camara companies exploit an error in the formula traffic engineers use to set yellow light durations. This equation contradicts Newton's Laws of Motion. The equation literally sets us all up for failure. A city that uses red light cameras for enforcement is like a city passing a law forbidding gravity. Everyone is eventually guilty.

The proof of all this is at the website below.Yes/No: Do you hate red-light traffic cameras?
Yes I hate them. They're everywhere in my city (Melbourne) but thankfully I haven't had a ticket yet because I'm not an idiot.
I do hate them never been caught by one because I keep a watchful eye and make sure it never happens but you never knowYes/No: Do you hate red-light traffic cameras?
No, I think they're funny. I see people getting their picture taken and I'm like "Haha they're probably all pissed now".

And ya know rules are rules. Can't be runnin' red lights.
As long as they aren't checking my speed, I'm fine with them. Why yes officer, I was going 100 MPH. But I made it through before the light turned red, didn't I?
No.... always think I get caught but apparently I never have because Ive never got a ticket for it....
    No, I'm an awesome driver.
I hate them. got 4 tickets already but I'm not gonna pay

What do traffic light cameras look like in the UK coz im really confused!!!?

the other day i was driving through a set of traffic lights, and although cameras werent attached to the lights, there were cameras near to it. I was clearing an intersection to turn right, but i cant remember if i was just behind or just in front of the line before i cleared the intersection, so im just wondering if these cameras are traffic light cameras, or just there to monitor traffic? there are three cameras at the intersection, one black one and two grey ones, and theyr all quite small, it was the black one thats was monitoring my part of the intersection, the 2 grey ones were pointing in other directions, someone plzzz just put my mind to rest coz im dead confused!thanx! What do traffic light cameras look like in the UK coz im really confused!!!?
there is loads of them, congestion charge ones.. bus lane ones.. some are to monitor bottlenecks

others are to catch people who block traffic..

they also have ones for catching peoples number plates for those who don't pay tax or insurance etc..
they look like the mafiaWhat do traffic light cameras look like in the UK coz im really confused!!!?
if thers no sign then its probably just a trafic monitor
Sounds like CCTV cameras monitoring the traffic flow; the "traffic light cameras" are usually identical to the normal Gatsos, big yellow boxes. What do traffic light cameras look like in the UK coz im really confused!!!?
Right they are not always coloured in yellow like speed cameras - they are smaller... thinner i would say they sit very close to traffic lights at busy intersections. see the link
hey hun well thier is usualy a sign before you see the traffic camera and it will say traffic camera ahead ,so if thier is a camera on a crossing, you wont get a ticket unless you go through on red not orange as you could be passing as it changed
They come in all shapes and sizes

but they do the same job , earn money for the Govenment
    Hi,

I think the cameras you saw are traffic monitoring cameras, there to detrere people from jumping red lights.

A traffic "safety" camera can be with in one mile of a warning sign, and within 3 miles of an accident hotspot and get you a fixed penalty notice of 拢60 and 3 points on your licence.

They are usually bright yellow, due to complaints that they were grey and hidden. This is due to the fact they are massive revenue rakers and peopl,e began to compain. They can be (hidden) behind tall trees, on a bend etc. They can sometimes be grey, if in an open space.

Also, you get police vans, with "mobile safety camera" on the side, although the safety of road users has not been improved since this enormous amount of cameras hit our streets. What can't be dispute is the amount of money they make...millions ans millions of pounds every year....the funds don't seem to go anywhere towards making the roads safer to be on....

I think the cameras you saw are traffic monitoring cameras, there to detrere people from jumping red lights.

  • Do you really believe TRAFFIC CAMERAS are installed to help keep traffic and the public safe?

or is an easy way for local goverments to generate revenueDo you really believe TRAFFIC CAMERAS are installed to help keep traffic and the public safe?
Revenue all the way. It's a cop out for the cops. They are just to lazy to try to enforce laws.

Beware the cameras that only photograph the plate of the car. Who was driving? Goodbye "innocent until proven guilty."
In my area, the city collects $13 of every $100 in fines. It's total garbage and political corruption through and through. Having people outside of our city, heck, they are out of state, collect money from us for running a yellow light makes my blood boil. It's invasive and bad public policy. This is one area that I think the ACLU should act. They sue schools for disallowing boys from wearing dresses to class, but they shy away from this.

Rant off.Do you really believe TRAFFIC CAMERAS are installed to help keep traffic and the public safe?
You answered your own question, its al about the cash. But try this, if they catch you and send you a picture of you and your vehicle, then send them a picture of your money,,,????
Traffic Cameras will generate tons of revenue, which is great for cities, but will also deter more violators. Cops cannot pull over every violator all the time. Most of the time a cop won't be there. We do have a lot of other more important things to be doing.Do you really believe TRAFFIC CAMERAS are installed to help keep traffic and the public safe?
As a retired Police Officer I have a problem with them. They sure are a revenue source and they have reduced accidents in some intersections, but I still believe in the old signing of the" Notice To Appear" citation. I just don't like the guilty before innocent aspect of them. In some of the Los Angeles intersections where they were used the yellow light only stayed on for one to two seconds. The traffic court had to throw all those tickets out. The companies that install them and maintain them get a cut of the fine and I think that should be revisited.
I don't understand the generate revenue?

You mean by tickets? Sure. I'll believe that. They got quite a bit of my money... and I've never even had a moving violation... I'm still going to court for letting my plates expire in 2005.... it's ridiculous here in Florida.

Maybe with some of the money they're making - they could update their websites too - so that they don't have hurricane updates from 3 years ago on their site instead of the current phone numbers that I need to find out when my court dates are...

But I think the answer might be even more insidious than that... ever read "1984"?
That lazy cop answer is absolute crap. Its about $$$$$

The officers are going call to call chasing crack smoking, gun yielding gang bangers and breaking up husband and wife boxing matches....radar traps and light enforcement is rare.

Its pure money. Nothing else...thats your answer, like it or not.
They are to catch people who are disobeying traffic rules and getting a ticket right out to them. It frees up officers to spend more time catching deadbeats and thugs.
So, drive like you are suppose to and they won't get it from you!
Revenue just another tax on the people.
it is simple a way to generate revenue, and should be termed as a speed trap,, just take a few minutes to see how they operate, they change from caution to red in 2 seconds, while all other lights give 4 seconds to change from caution to red therefore getting to many people trapped in between the light and they get a 70$ ticket for running a red light.it is so unfair.
Screw those tickets! How does PhotoBlocker Spray Work?

A majority of red light %26amp; speed cameras utilize a strong flash to photograph the license plate on your car. Once sprayed on your license plate, PhotoBlocker鈥檚 special formula produces a high-powered gloss that reflects the flash back towards the camera. This overexposes the image of your license plate, rendering the picture unreadable. With PhotoBlocker, your license plate is invisible to traffic cameras yet completely legible to the naked eye.
