What type of traffic camera is this?

Check out this picture:

Look at the camera right above the traffic light in that picture, what type of camera is that? (like a red light camera, speed camera, etc). What exactly does it do?What type of traffic camera is this?
traffic cameras do red lights and speeding

if you enter the speed trap at every monitored intersection speeding then the camera will get you

so dont speed cause those cameras see everything
Most likely, this camera is a video detector camera. Cameras mounted this close to the traffic signal head are probably used to detect the presence of vehicles. When a vehicle enters the field of view, the camera sends a signal to the traffic controller to change the traffic signal to green at the appropriate time. However, in my experience, these should be mounted about 30 ft above the signal head so large vehicles crossing in front of the camera don't obstruct the camera's view of the target traffic.

This could also be a video monitor that sends real time pictures back to the traffic management center. They can monitor traffic flow and adjust signal timing to accommodate unusual traffic conditions. But these types of cameras are usually Pan/Tilt/Zoom models so they can view other approaches to the intersection. This looks to be a fixed position.

Could be a red light camera but I don't think it is. All the one's I've seen are mounted about 25' downstream of the intersection on the side of the road. There's always a flash unit for night time pictures. I don't see the flash unit here.

Not a speed camera for the same reasons it is not a red light camera. Also, I don't see a radar transmitter that would detect the speed of the vehicles.

It could be an emergency vehicle pre-empt sensor that detects a signal from an emergency vehicle and causes the traffic signal to enter a predetermined state (usually green or all red). What type of traffic camera is this?
It's multi use.

It detects speeds that excel the limit. It is usually monitored.

However, it is only activated when you run a red light, or go over the speed limit. It will take a snapshot of your license and you might get a ticket or a summons in the mail.
We have those in Texas and they can be used for traffic counters, traffic updates but the ones that I have seen just like this are not speed or red light cameras because there are no boxes near the opposite sides on the roads. What type of traffic camera is this?
it takes a picture of your car just incase if you dont stop at a red light
