Is the sensor on top of the traffic light a camera?

My arabian son pointed it out the other day when we were driving together. Is the sensor on top of the traffic light a camera?
Yes , and camera flash light will work if you pass pedistrain lines. Is the sensor on top of the traffic light a camera?
Most are stobe sensors and if you have a handheld flood light you can test them out. Sweep the beam back and forth across the sensor.

Some make all 4 dirrections go RED, so the emergecy vehicles can slip past on the wrong side of the street, and others hold the GREEN light so they can move with the traffic. In some cities, the GREEN hold is even used on the busses, which typically stop just short of the corner to unload passengers, and hold up all the cars behind them. We've had them in LA for about 40 years. Is the sensor on top of the traffic light a camera?
No. It's an infrared sensor. It is used by emergency vehicles approaching the light to turn the light green. They have a special transmitter to do that.
In my town in northern CA it is a camera on the top of the traffic light.

Just wondering what this camera is on top of the traffic lights?

theres a camera on top of the traffic light at an intersection, but its only on top the west bound direction, nothing on top of the other 3 directions. so im just wondering could it be a red light camera? o__0 or what is it?Just wondering what this camera is on top of the traffic lights?
It's not a camera. It's a signal picker-upper for when emergency vehicles come through that intersection to turn the right place green so the emergency vehicles can get through easier. Watch it when an ambulance goes through cuz the ones in my area flash white when that happens to show an override of normal traffic patterns.Just wondering what this camera is on top of the traffic lights?
Traffic Cam?Just wondering what this camera is on top of the traffic lights?
I wouldn't speed if i were you. It's definitely a T.cam.

If caught by a traffic camera, how long until the ticket comes in the mail?

Many don't even get sent.

My car is registered to a private trust. I've gotten "flashed" twice, but didn't receive a ticket either time.If caught by a traffic camera, how long until the ticket comes in the mail?
2 weeks.

Are ANPR cameras used only in Police Traffic Cars?

Answers needed as soon as possible... ThanksAre ANPR cameras used only in Police Traffic Cars?
No ANPR cameras can be positioned on motorway bridges, or in Police vans, in fact they can put them anywhere. Also VOSA (The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency) have ANPR fitted to some of their vehicles, they drive around car parks and motorways, they do not have the authority to stop you but they usually have a Police car nearby if they need to pull someone over.
Airboy is correct. However i would just like to add, some police helicopters have ANPR.Are ANPR cameras used only in Police Traffic Cars?
no they can have ANPR vans which can be situated at the side of roads or on bridges (the same as with mobile speed camera vans and that) and fixed anpr cameras (work in the same way as speed cameras wd with people breaking the speed limit) are becoming more n more popular in some parts of the country as well so it's not worth the risk, you'd b very lucky to get away with driving without insurance, tax, mot etc these days
Just to add to airboy's answer, VOSA now DO have the power to stop.

Also there are VED (road tax) cameras that are set up separately often on a tripod at the side of the rd. They read the barcode on the disc.

Tax, MOT and Insurance is all on a database now, you can check to make sure your vehicle has insurance cover on askmid.com and the DVLA site will tell you if it's taxed and give you the MOT status. Are ANPR cameras used only in Police Traffic Cars?
The KFC in Stirling has ANPR cameras to enforce the parking regulation of a maximum stay of 1 hr. it is in the centre of Stirling and people were trying to park there for the whole day and customers couldn't get in.

Can I take the 12 hour traffic school for a red light camera ticket?

I had recently just finished traffic school back in march for failure to yield for a pedestrian.... I have now received A red light camera ticket for not making a complete stop before making the right hand turn. since I have done traffic school in the past 18 months, would i qualify for the 12 hours traffic school and would it keep from having my insurance go up? how many points do you get for that ticket, btw, im from california. Can I take the 12 hour traffic school for a red light camera ticket?
you would have to check with the courts that you went to for the ticket. some states and counties have different laws. some tickets you cant to go traffic school if the points are not at least 3 points. others you can go for a 1 point infraction. i believe that a red light running is 3 points. not sure but believe that is the amount. i live in nevada but lived in california for many years.

I understand they mail them to you but is there a way to find out before you get the ticket. How do i check to see if i have been ticketed by a traffic light camera?
    Hi,

If you know the county where your ran the light and the plate info you can look it up under county court info or call your local DMV to find out how. Wish I could be more helpful but you did not list the state.

    Best of luck~
If you do not get a ticket in the mail within 21 days after the incident when you thought you might have been caught by a red light camera, then you will most likely not be getting a ticket.

    You can't.

Traffic light camera at intersection, yet no sign notifying as such?

I got a ticket at an intersection (in California) as a result of a camera filming me run a red light. I've looked all over and I still cannot find a posted sign that indicates that intersection is being filmed, this seems illegal and I'm having trouble finding information on these laws, any information would be greatly appreciated.Traffic light camera at intersection, yet no sign notifying as such?
There does not have to be a posted sign, but check with your local roads authority.
Don't know if you've found your silver bullet here. You are correct about the signs needing to be present, but read carefully to see where they have to be posted:

    (1) Identifies the system by signs that clearly indicate the

system's presence and are visible to traffic approaching from all

directions, or posts signs at all major entrances to the city,

including, at a minimum, freeways, bridges, and state highway routes.

This is from 21455.5 of the California Vehicle Code, which you can read for yourself here:

I've also found this site pretty entertaining:

    http://www.highwayrobbery.net/

Good luck.Traffic light camera at intersection, yet no sign notifying as such?
well, running a red light is wrong. So it's a good idea to have a camera so if people run the light, they know. But I don't know anything about being illegal. Teaches you a lesson not to run red lights though
So your defense is that you run them only when there's no camera.Traffic light camera at intersection, yet no sign notifying as such?
even if there is no sign, you should still have to obey the law.
There does not need to be a sign indicating that traffic cameras are being used. You will not be able to get the pictures thrown out of evidence either.

The camera was positioned on public property and the pictures were taken in an area where there is no expectation of privacy (a public road). When you are in public you can have your picture taken at any time, and there is not thing one you can do about it.

I have never seen a police department put up signs indicating that a patrol car is enforcing speed limits using radar ahead ... and tickets written under those circumstances hold up quite well in court.

You were looking DOWN while driving into an intersection? Yikes! Glad you are driving in California and not New York ... we have enough lousy drivers here as it is!
not only they don't have to tell you but they rather you not know so you can continue your natural driving patterns

Please answer, it's regarding Traffic Lights in Davenport, Iowa?

I don't like driving in Davnport, Iowa because it is so unfamiliar to me. Well, anyway, I was driving last night, and it was raining so I couldn't make out the lines on the road. Turns out I stopped too far in the intersection. I was halfway through when I noticed how close to the light I was. I was already braked, but I looked, and I didn't see a line. Davenport has those traffic cameras. Do you think it triggered it? I'm worried, no one can answer my question! Please help!

Thanks! Please answer, it's regarding Traffic Lights in Davenport, Iowa?
I believe the traffic cameras are a two sensor system, one being where you should stop and one about 10 to 20 feet forward of that, as long as you don't leave the induction field of the first sensor (move the vehicle from the top of the sensor) you'll be fine. Even at that you can contest it if you did get photographed. Please answer, it's regarding Traffic Lights in Davenport, Iowa?
    no you didn't trigger it

Who to Complain About Traffic Signal Camera's in UK?

    Hi Mates,

Could you please help with the contact details to complain, if someone's not happy with the decision of Traffic Signal Camera.

ThanksWho to Complain About Traffic Signal Camera's in UK?
    You have 2 options

    1. Accept the fixed penalty and thats that OR

    2. Opt to have it dealt with by a magistrates court where you can argue the case if you plead not guilty.
So it sounds like you have been caught but want to blame the camera . . . . If it is the camera then there will be many more people that are in the same boat as you so by complaining you will be sure to get off with the fine . . . . . . . . :-/Who to Complain About Traffic Signal Camera's in UK?
The traffic signal camer does not make a decision, it takes a photograph which is later assessed by a human being, the human decides whether an offence has been committed not the camera.

  • Temporary traffic lights with red light cameras used during roadworks at a mini roundabout?

There are 3 possible routes to take either left, straight or right

The traffic light had changed to red and I was at the front of the que I went too far from my temporary traffic light so I couldn't see it and had to reverse so I could keep an eye on the traffic lights..

so I didnt go through the red light, or would I be counted as going through the red light because I went a bit further and then reversed back and waited? because surely the camera would need a 2nd picture of my car after I had taken an exit from the mini roundabout?

    any advice

am i just worrying about nothing?Temporary traffic lights with red light cameras used during roadworks at a mini roundabout?
Honestly, I think you are worrying about nothing ... so easy to do, I admit. Sometimes, we are just subject to so much bloody enforcement on the roads that its so easy to come home with a complex. I think you can forget this one and as people have said the camera was just a motion detector. I flash my headlights at them .. seems to make them change quicker!..
The little red light that you mention is not a camera, it's an indicator for the radar device that allows the lights to adjust their operating system so that traffic is not kept waiting if there is nothing queuing against them - don't worry about it!!!Temporary traffic lights with red light cameras used during roadworks at a mini roundabout?
Concentrate ! If there was a wallet of cash lying

in the road you would see it.

Turn your radio off or take your hands free out

of your ears and read the road.

You are 'just worrying' about yourself and not all other

    road users and pedestrians.
Its not a camera its a detector, they never have cameras on temporary traffic lights so your worry about nothing.Temporary traffic lights with red light cameras used during roadworks at a mini roundabout?
It's not a camera, it just detects movement to operate the lights.

It usually takes a week, but I have had people that I know get their tickets a month later !!

Call the place where you get your vehicle registration done or go in, and they will be able to tell you if there are any outstanding tickets that you have. (I would not call if you have a ton of unpaid tickets because they will get you to pay them right away) but at least they will be able to tell you if you have a ticket and if they say you don't, you either don't have a ticket or it hasn't been processed yet.How long does it take traffic tix to arrive to your house , red light camera?
About a week, when i got mine it was about 5 business days.. the waiting is the worst because you're not 100% sure you got it haha.

What happen if i dont pay a traffic camera ticket? do you really have to pay this type of tickets?

Nope, they send them out for fun.

Laws and the punishments that go with them aren't something to take seriously.

Grow up....of course you have to pay the ticket.

And start driving legally, it isn't hard. What happen if i dont pay a traffic camera ticket? do you really have to pay this type of tickets?
No...they just give them out, and it's up to you to decide if you want to pay it or not...

OF COURSE you have to pay it! If you don't a warrant could be issued for your arrest just like any other ticket you ignore.
no, you don't have to pay it. of course you will not be able to re-register your car, or renew your license, and they will send you to collections which will double the bill and add interest to it.What happen if i dont pay a traffic camera ticket? do you really have to pay this type of tickets?
They have your infraction ON CAMERA, including your car, your license plate, and usually your face.

That's better than if an officer stopped you!
absolutely not. Tickets are just sent randomly to people so the cops can work without having to be on the streets, and so people will always obey laws because they are afraid. It's actually saving the taxpayers money, because they no longer have to pay as many salaries. Besides that, there are just way too many trees in this world, and we are solving that problem with the random ticket assignments. What happen if i dont pay a traffic camera ticket? do you really have to pay this type of tickets?
It depends on the penalties that are written into the code for the offense, in your area. I received a camera ticket. I went and fought the ticket...and WON!!

Whats this Seattle City some boycott Seattle pays American Traffic Solutions to operate red-light cameras at?

Whats this Seattle City some boycott Seattle pays American Traffic Solutions to operate red-light cameras at 29 intersections when it costs them money why do that back off at what they will or will not boycott ?

Neither the Tacoma City Council nor its Seattle counterpart emerged from their debates over Arizona’s immigration-enforcement law this week unscathed.

Both councils are due some lumps for presuming to counsel a border state overwhelmed by illegal immigration.

City leaders living 1,000 miles north of the Mexican border can’t possibly fathom the depths of frustration that led Arizona to take matters into its own hands after years of federal inaction.

But give the Tacoma council some credit. It may not have had any more right to stick its nose in Arizona’s business than Seattle did, but at least Tacoma council members have copped to the impotence of the gesture.

That’s more than can be said of Seattle. The council there voted 7-0 to stage a “boycott” of goods and services from Arizona.

Some boycott. The resolution “urges” Seattle city government to refrain from sending employees to Arizona and from entering into new contracts with businesses headquartered there – “to the extent practicable.”

It apparently wasn’t practicable to cancel the city’s biggest contract with an Arizona company. Seattle pays American Traffic Solutions to operate red-light cameras at 29 intersections; in return, it gets millions in ticket revenue.

Seattle Times columnist Danny Westneat quoted Mayor Mike McGinn, who supports the boycott, defending the exception. “You may have noticed we have a budget deficit here,” the mayor said.

Loosely translated: Seattle is OK with socking it to Arizona as long as the city itself doesn’t have to sacrifice. Some principled stand, that.

Tacoma council members Ryan Mello and Lauren Walker originally proposed a boycott, but backed down after a torrent of criticism. Their revised resolution urges Arizona to “rescind or significantly amend” its law allowing requiring police to ask a person about his or her immigration status if there’s reasonable suspicion that the person is in the country illegally

hopefully, Starbucks will start to see their revenue drop and put some pressure on the Seattle city council to mind their own business

Should traffic accidents recorded by highway cameras be sold as 'pay-per-view' to increase government revenues

    no, They should be free.

  • If there is no photo enforcement sign than is the traffic camera legal?

Laughter is right. In most jurisdictions no prior notification of a traffic camera is required. If you were speeding or ran a red light, you are caught. If you believe you are innocent, check with an attorney for your options. If there is no photo enforcement sign than is the traffic camera legal?
First, the traffic codes of every state and country are different. There are no universal laws. In my state, there is no right to be informed of the manner in which you might get caught committing a crime. If there is no photo enforcement sign than is the traffic camera legal?
That would depend on your local ordinances

Speed cameras, on the A40 between Northholt and gypsy corner.?

They have installed 2 of the new digital cameras, which are supposed to replace the Gatso's. But they have kept the Gatso's so that is 5 in 3 miles, the Government say that it is for road safety and not to raise revenue, which means more cameras less traffic police. If you went into town for the night and felt intimidated by the drunks, what would you prefer cameras or the police. Cameras don't stop the irresponsible, but the sight of a policeman does.Speed cameras, on the A40 between Northholt and gypsy corner.?
It's all about money, if it was for safety they would still have the traffic police on patrol.Speed cameras, on the A40 between Northholt and gypsy corner.?
I much prefer the variable speed monitoring cameras. We have some near me on the road works. At least with this system you don't have the idiots who race up to a speed camera, shove on their brakes to avoid getting a ticket and then race away again. I don't think I would like to drive into town for the night especially if there are likely to be drunk drivers on the roads back to my part of the UK as they are just as likely to involve you in a traffic accident as intimidate you by rear bumper hugging.

I do agree with you though that the sight of a police officer is very effective.Speed cameras, on the A40 between Northholt and gypsy corner.?
Absolutely 100% correct even though I think speed cameras have a part to play in reducing the idiot speeds some people drive at in 30 MPH zones!

Anyone know about traffic violations by camera?

This is in regarding traffic violations in Los Angeles County California. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE PHOTO ENFORCED RED LIGHT VIOLATION INTERSECTIONS. Will/can sheriffs patrol cars issue tickets for speeding or red light violations caught on camera from the patrol car itself in lieu of stopping and pulling over the violator?Anyone know about traffic violations by camera?
I hope not. Those photos are all done on computers. Those photos can also be altered using Photo-Play on the computer. Green lights can be turned into red lights. Cars that weren't there suddenly appear. Time of Day changed, empty crosswalks filled with pedestrians. That sucks, I don't see how they are legal.Anyone know about traffic violations by camera?

Anyone know about traffic violations by camera?
There was a bill to set up a pilot project for photo enforcement of speeding in Beverly Hills. This does not involve a camera in a car (you wouldn't need that--the officer is right there). It would have been like red light photo tickets, except the picture would be of a speeder. The bill died in committee.

Can I beat it? I turned left on red arrow. Ticket is $380, outrageousReceived Calif traffic camera ticket during visit 6 mos ago. 2 lights green 1 light left turn red Can I beat?
I don't see any claim here that you did not commit a violation. If you had such a claim, you could have a trial by declaration which would not require your return to California. Some people go to court hoping that the citing officer will not show up, but it would probably cost you more to do that than to pay the ticket.

You may want to consider the traffic school option. That can be done on line, so you don't have to come back to California. It will actually cost a bit more than the citation, but no report of a conviction will go to DMV. A report of a conviction would be sent to your home state, and would probably affect your insurance rates.

BTW, I have no idea why people are talking about warrants--I see nothing in your question to indicate that a warrant has been or would be issued.
Pay the fine and stay out of California till you find out if Warrents are still in effect...Received Calif traffic camera ticket during visit 6 mos ago. 2 lights green 1 light left turn red Can I beat?
Doubt it. First off your not supposed to turn left on red. Its dangerous and can cause accidents, why I think the fine is so big.
you broke the law, just pay the f'n ticket, geez. You can fight it,youll just have to go back to Ca and appear in court, and by now, there is a warrant out for your arrest, have fun.380.00 is a hell of alot cheaper than killing someone because you drive like a fool.Received Calif traffic camera ticket during visit 6 mos ago. 2 lights green 1 light left turn red Can I beat?
I would have to agree with some of the other answers. You broke the law and now you have to pay the cost.
contest and plead NOT GUILTY.. Tell judge that camera can be altered and manipulated .If judge ask how.. give him list of softwares that can change videos.Tell judge that the camera company (private company) is doing this because they want to be in contract with gov.

with Not Guilty u can avoid points on your ticket if judge consider the foul play by camera company.. slight doubt and they cant give you ticket.LET THE JUDGE ASK THE COMPANY REP.THAT IF CAMERAS CAN BE ALTERED OR MAKE MISTAKE or AT LEAST PROVIDE THE CALIBRATION DATE LAST TIME ON THE CAMERAS..BUT YOU HAVE TO TOTALLY DENY THE VIDEO OF YOU RUNNING..TELL JUDGE THAT HE CAN ALSO BELIEVE A KINGKONG ON EMPIRE ESTATE BUILDING IF HE BELIEVES ON THIS FAKE VIDEO

How much you pay is determined partially by your record. If you already have had some tickets recently, it will cost more.
I'd wager around 250-300 bucks including court costs etc they add on.

It's the law to always come to a complete stop on a red light before making a right hand turn...unless there's a sign saying "no right turn on red"...

A traffic light camera took my picture when turning left on green. why?

I was driving tonight picking a friend up in NW washington dc right by the monument at 15th and constitution. I was in the left turning lane and there was no sign that said 'no left turn" or anything.(plus it was a one way street anyway) and i was turning on green and WAM! Flashing of the camera. I am quite confused and id rather not have to fight this in court.A traffic light camera took my picture when turning left on green. why?
Maybe it was taking a shot of someone else??

If its any conciliation I had a speed camera flash at me some months ago (I was the only one of the road) but I was never sent a ticket.A traffic light camera took my picture when turning left on green. why?
Sometimes on some corners i see one flashing all the time, when the light is green, when there are no cars there at all, Just every few seconds. They don't all do this, just a couple, and if they were defective I would think they would have been repaired sometimes over the several months I seen them going off. I don't know why it's flashing, but maybe it's not anything the car did.A traffic light camera took my picture when turning left on green. why?

I ran a red traffic light camera, what is the fine?

And does being naked on a motorcycle have anything to do with it?I ran a red traffic light camera, what is the fine?
Ther fine depends on the jurisdiction but can run over $100 in some cities.

Naked depends on if you are male or female. If you are female the officers are too busy replaying the video to bother to write the ticket.I ran a red traffic light camera, what is the fine?
Fine varies each local municipal.Being naked makes no difference to the camera which has no feeling,it only interested at the license plate, not your rear end but real cop would give you an extra ticket for indecent exposure.I ran a red traffic light camera, what is the fine?
Depends what state, and I would assume so.

Can I see the footage of a Traffic Camera?

I was recently involved in a traffic accident on I-15 in Las Vegas. We believe that the car in front of me hit the car in front of him first then I hit the accident but I am being held at fault. Is there any way that I can get the footage of the freeway in that spot and see what really happened. Again this is for Las Vegas so if you're not sure about Vegas rules than please don't speculateCan I see the footage of a Traffic Camera?
You can issue a subpoena for any evidence you believe exists concerning the accident.

However, even if you can prove the middle car hit the front car first, it will not absolve you of fault in the accident and for damages to the rear of the middle car.Can I see the footage of a Traffic Camera?
You would have to get a subpoena for the footage if they won't willingly give it to you at your local police station.

technically you are at fault as far as the car that you hit. but thats beside the point anyway you havee to get your lawyer to get a subpoena to get the traffic footage

Traffic light camera flashed at me?

I was on my way home from grocery shopping. I was like not so far from the traffic light, it turned yellow when I was close. I couldn't stop since I was close to the white line. When my tires almost touched the white line, it turned red immediately. Then a camera flash appears. I was going under the speed limit, didn't sped or anything. I was driving just fine. How much would the ticket cost, and how long would it take to receive the ticket?Traffic light camera flashed at me?
Don't worry until you get the ticket.

If the city sends you a ticket, the city is penalizing you for the failure of the traffic engineer. Fraction of a second violations are all caused by the engineering defect called the dilemma zone. The dilemma zone is what all the red light camera companies exploit. It is the basis of their business model. In brief, cities penalize the innocent for the ignorance and lazyness of traffic engineers.

You can read about it below.Traffic light camera flashed at me?
If the City does not send you a ticket then you do not have to worry about it. They have to mail the ticket out by 21 days after the date of the alleged violation. in most cases the ticket goes out in 5 days. In California the fine is approximately $450 not including the traffic school fee of $50 and the fee that you have to pay to the traffic school $50 to $80. Total damage is $500 to $550. If you cannot do traffic school then total damage is $450 plus 20% to 30% additional insurance premium for the next 3 years.

Just because a picture was taken does not mean you will receive a ticket - the picture will be reviewed and they may decide that they cannot prove there was any violation. In addition, there is one "get out of jail free card" - if you had a passenger in your vehicle, they cannot issue a ticket (as it is a violation of privacy for them to send you a picture of anybody but yourself). Because of the privacy issue, they DO review all pictures before issuing a ticket. Because every single picture is reviewed, if you do receive a ticket it's pretty darn hard to get out of.

If you are sent a ticket and still feel that you are innoecent, you are allowed to contest the ticket in court. At the courthouse, they will show you the full video of the event (from which the pictures you receive in the mail were taken), at which point you will be able to make a decision to go through with the hearing or not. Because of all the documentation they have, you will find the case nearly impossible to win. Be careful: If you contest the ticket and lose, you may find your penalty even worse than if you never contested at all. (For example, in California - if you contest the ticket and lose, you can no longer go to traffic school to get rid of the points on your license.)

If you have doubts though, you may as well go the courthouse to check the rest of the documentation yourself - and then with that information, decide whether you would like to go through with contesting the ticket.

It looks like a telephone pole on the northbound, east side, just south of Greenway has a hidden camera. They have put cameras up everywhere. We have members of our staff watching cameras in the downtown Phoenix area and when something happens they just dispatch us out. This way we get there before some one calls 911.
yes there is and yes it is legallIs there a traffic camera hidden on a pole on the east side of 19th Ave., south of Greenway in Phoenix, AZ?
Sure it's legal. Speed radar enforced cameras have been in the valley for over a year. I see the majority of them on the 101 and in Scottsdale. And they have had the red light running cameras for years. They are becoming more wide spread. I used to barely see any, now it seems they are everywhere.

    It does suck!
They seem to have put a lot up in the North Central valley a lot recently, this intersection in particular. It is legal as is all of the cameras on the highways, etc. The only part that is not proper is when you get the ticket in the mail. A mail man (or woman) is not a process server and cannot "serve" you court papers (or tickets). Talk to any process server or a court clerk to verify this.Is there a traffic camera hidden on a pole on the east side of 19th Ave., south of Greenway in Phoenix, AZ?
Consider using a gps traffic detection poi to warn you of traffic cameras. The following site contains a link to directions for installing a free poi on most gps systems: http://www.a2dvoices.com/realitycheck/

Red-light tickets fines often vary between $90 and $400 dollars. Remember that the municipalities do not want to clog their courts, they just want your money. If you do not pay by mail and instead choose to fight the ticket in court, many times you will get a message saying that the prosecutor has decided not to prosecute.

One tactic is to contest receiving a non-moving violation for a moving violation (running a red light). It is also important to note the blowing through a red light is just as expensive as making a rolling stop when turning. The fines are just revenue generators. Out of principle, many people boycott doing their business with merchants in these municipalities.

What happens if u don't pay a red light camera traffic ticket?

someones got a ticket on my truck in one of those red light camera tickets what happens if that person don't pay ?What happens if u don't pay a red light camera traffic ticket?
you can claim you don't know them..What happens if u don't pay a red light camera traffic ticket?
hate to tell you, as long as it's registered to you, at least in california, it's your responsibility

If I get a ticket by traffic light camera and never receive the ticket in the mail, will I have a warrant out?

what if the police have an old address and the ticket never gets to you in the mail...will you have a warrant out for your arrest in a few months? If I get a ticket by traffic light camera and never receive the ticket in the mail, will I have a warrant out?
Hypothetically speaking if a ticket was mailed to you to an old address the post office should foward any mail to you at your new address - assuming you up dated your information. But ignorance of an offense is no excuse to plead inoccent either. You are responsible for any fines any infractions may incur. So if you somehow got a ticket and it was mailed to the wrong place, its still your responsibility to take care of it.

Now if the courts to make an error and mailed the ticket to the wrong place, that doesn't mean you're off the hook, they just can't increase any fines or penalties because of the mailing error - unless if was you who failed to notify the post office of a change in your mailing address.

As far as having a warrant out for you. Well if they do place a warrent out on you, it will be a bench warrant. So only if a cop gets real board and decides to book you, or you get pulled over again or get caught doing something illegal, will you ever be arrested. And if that happens they will detain you and write you a new court date and probably let you out with the day (unless its a friday) and that'll be that as long as you show up for court.

But yeah like everyone else is asking - how would know you have the ticket? If you think you got a ticket, but didn't get it in the mail then you are obligated to contact the country court clerks office (or what ever equivilant to that in your area) and ask about any tickets or warrants in your name.
contest and plead NOT GUILTY.. Tell judge that camera can be altered and manipulated .If judge ask how.. give him list of softwares that can change videos.Tell judge that the camera company (private company) is doing this because they want to be in contract with gov.

with Not Guilty u can avoid points on your ticket if judge consider the foul play by camera company.. slight doubt and they cant give you ticket.LET THE JUDGE ASK THE COMPANY REP.THAT IF CAMERAS CAN BE ALTERED OR MAKE MISTAKE or AT LEAST PROVIDE THE CALIBRATION DATE LAST TIME ON THE CAMERAS..BUT YOU HAVE TO TOTALLY DENY THE VIDEO OF YOU RUNNING..TELL JUDGE THAT HE CAN ALSO BELIEVE A KINGKONG ON EMPIRE ESTATE BUILDING IF HE BELIEVES ON THIS FAKE VIDEOIf I get a ticket by traffic light camera and never receive the ticket in the mail, will I have a warrant out?
    I agree with Miss Patches.

How would you know if you got a ticket?
Since you never signed a promise to appear, the worst that will happen is that the DMV will be notified and a hold may be placed on your license until the ticket is resolved. If I get a ticket by traffic light camera and never receive the ticket in the mail, will I have a warrant out?
Are you talking about the red light cameras? In NC, those are not enforceable with arrest; they are privately run. You can be sued civilly, but not much else can happen.
No, a warrant cannot be issued on a traffic light citation if you do not pay it. Traffic light's are monitored by a private company and not the police department. The only thing that can happen if you don't pay it is, the DMV can refuse to renew your registration on your vehicle.
It's still your problem since it's your responsibility to make sure the DMV has your correct address on file. Also, even if the Postal Service were to lose it, all that's required for a summons is a good faith effort. And THAT will be recorded in the logs in the clerks department.

In the second case, you might be able to make an argument in court if you diligently researched case law and precedent for rescinding the added late penalties, but the cost of doing that kind of research would probably be more than the penalties. And you'd still have the basic fine.

So, even theoretically, you're still out of luck with your scenarios.
How would you know that the traffic light camera caught you and you were ticketed if you never recieved it?

    Question about traffic light cameras?

I was driving in west covina, I dont think I ran a red light, but i may have been speeding as i went through the intersection, so two questions

one- can the camera get you for speeding?

two- would I be able to hear the camera from my car if i had the radio off and it was silent outside? because i thought i heard something but i might just be hallucinating out of fear (it was like 12am)Question about traffic light cameras?
one yes they can get you for speeding two you won't hear the camera ya car will light up brighter than a Christmas tree hooked to a power line not once twiceQuestion about traffic light cameras?
A camera can't catch u speeding it can only catch you running a red light. And if its a camera that's similar to the ones in new york you should've seen a flash. That flash indicates that you ran a red light and it caught you, with that said you can expect a ticket in a mail.Question about traffic light cameras?
dont worry about speeding the red light ticket you get in the mail will be around $355, merry Christmas!
The camera would not get you for speeding. Traffic cams are set to take a picture of your plates only if you enter while the light is red; there is a pressure plate under the surface of the road that activates the camera. As long as the light was green, or yellow, you're good.

And you would not hear it. However you would have seen a bright flash of light, believe it or not these cameras need a flash to properly function.

  • Do all red light cameras have to have a "Photo Enforced" sign?

How can you tell the difference between a traffic monitoring camera for the lights or a red light camera? Do all red light cameras have the warning sign? What do red light cameras look like?Do all red light cameras have to have a "Photo Enforced" sign?
Red light cameras are usually a bit larger and have a strobe attached or nearby. Traffic monitors have no artificial light. You will see the strobe go of evey once and a while even when no one does a violation. Two reasons, calibrations and advertisement of the camera to decrease light running.

Signs are not needed at every intersection but some signs are needed saying something like Traffic Signals Camera Enforced near the entrances to the city.

No city I know keeps the information on what intersections have red light cameras secret. They want people to know since the cameras are there to stop people from killing others by running the light.

Check your cities web site for exact locations.

There is also a site that has all in the US.Do all red light cameras have to have a "Photo Enforced" sign?
Ok the monitoring cameras are mounted on the bars with the lights the red light cams are mounted on steel poles near the intersection they are a bundle of 2 cameras with a flash bulb attached at the top. And yes they should all have signs warning you that the intersection is photo inforced as most state courts require the signage to be inplace when the cameras are i operation. The sign with be a regulatory sign that says this intersection is photo enforced or something along those lines.

you usually cannot get out of those. Even if you can, it would cost more to fight it than it would just to pay the ticket.
The best way to get out of a speeding ticket is not to speed.
people never seem to bother to do the math and relize that it costs more to fight a ticket than just pay up in most cases
Well, you could do like all self-absorbed inbred drivers who believe they are special and should be exempt from those pesky laws like speed limits. You could lie and claim it was someone else driving. Or you could act like a responsible adult and admit that you messed up and pay the price. Chances are that the 35 mph zone you were going 47 in was a residential neighborhood where children play and ride their bikes in the street.
A good idea may be to argue that you wernt the driver of the car, and they cant prove you were driving it. I woudl think that if they cant prove you were drivign the car, you coudlnt be held responsible for the violation.

Though, since its a speed camera, they might have a picture of your face.

Do the small traffic camera's on top of street lights take pictures or just patrol traffic because?

i have seen biger cameras installed on main streets that do take pictures but i am not sure about the small ones on top of street signs/street lightsDo the small traffic camera's on top of street lights take pictures or just patrol traffic because?
It's quite likely that they are not cameras at all. They may be motion sensors that activate traffic lights whan a car moves up to the 'stop line' painted at intersections. They look like small cameras. Red light enforcement cameras are bigger and are about half way down the pole. Cheers!
In Houston, the cameras that take pictures of you when you break traffic laws, have a sign posted stating that they take pictures. The others ones, I believe are to just monitor traffic. Though there are some lights that have a small red light on top, and when someone runs it, it goes off, so the cops will know that the person ran it, if there is one in the area.Do the small traffic camera's on top of street lights take pictures or just patrol traffic because?
If they are there for the purpose of traffic violations there is normally a sign near the intersection that says it's monitored for that purpose. There are a lot of cameras that are only there to monitor traffic for purposes of news broadcasts, electric signal functionality, etc.
ALL cameras take pictures. Wither the pictures are used to issue tickets, or even recorded, depends on the individual camera.Do the small traffic camera's on top of street lights take pictures or just patrol traffic because?

    Traffic lights with cameras?

Does anyone know how long after you run a red light that it takes a picture? I ran one today after about one second after the light had turned red. and do you have to go to traffic school for this if you get a ticket? thanks..Traffic lights with cameras?
It takes a picture as soon as the light is red and there is a car inside the intersection. If you get a ticket (there's a chance that you won't) you may go to traffic school.
In my area, the photo enforcement cameras are programmed to take photos of cars that run both yellow and red lights. The cameras also take photos of cars that are in the intersection the when the light changes from green to yellow. The photo is taken a split second after your car crosses the bold line. These are some very busy cameras. I had to go thru one of these intersections on the way home, the cameras took pictures of the 6 cars ahead of me, all of which had the light change from green to yellow while in the intersection.Traffic lights with cameras?
Depends upon the program. Technically, if the light is red then you are guilty. Based upon that the camera could legally be programmed to work immediately. Not that it is, but could be. Also consider the amount of time the caution light is on. It has to be on for at least a certain time to allow for "stragglers". Otherwise it is considered a type of trap which is illegal. If you had sufficient time to go through, then you should be okay. If you really are in violation of the light, then you'll just have to pay the ticket which you'll get in the mail.
No, you don't need go to traffic school. You just need to pay the fine that is written on the ticket. You will need to go to traffic school if a police officer pulls you over and tells you otherwise. The traffic lights with cameras will take two pictures, 1st is when you trigger the camera, 2nd is when you cross the intersection along with your license plate. Traffic lights with cameras?
Well, if the lights are set up like they are in the town I live in the cameras have live feed that is reviewed by a security company. They will send you a ticket and it will usually cost around 75 dollars unless you want to argue that you weren't at fault then you can set up a date for a appeal.
Well i am not too sure but where I am from the cameras are not there to take pictures. They are there to see the traffic and for collision purposes. But i know that if you have to pass the light before it gets red if not it takes a picture right when its about to turn red.
The timing depends on the individual camera, but it's usually 0 - the camera will fire from the instant the light turns red.

Whether you have to take the class for a red light violation depends on your local jurisdiction.
i am not sure about the time but if u run i do not think u have to go to traffic school. but you will get a ticket if u beat the timing

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
This camera on the lights, only captures images after the red light turns on. As long as you were more than half way through the intersection, the camera wont do anything
about 3 seconds. But, i ran like a 100 red lights in the past and haven't got ticketed for it so unless you were speeding while doing it or something they shouldn't mess with you
No you just have to pay the fine. There is no traffic school. If you feel that they have ticketed them in error, I believe that they give you a number to call and you can go and contest it.
the ticket may or may not come after a month. but if they got you and the got a clear picture, you're in for a ticket.
Typical that a woman ran a red light. No surprises here.
i find those to be a money maker...

the only good thing about it is...

the ticket can not count as a moving violation to the insurance company
it took me 11 day to get the tickets in the mail it was 100.00 the first time thay say #2 is 200.00 and #3 is 400
    about 2 weeks

So i was wondering if I am going to receive a ticket if i stopped completely, and the light flashed once, but i did go over the line.Do I get a ticket if the traffic light camera flashed only once?
You probably will get the ticket if the light turned red and you went over the line, the camera only has to flash once to get you picture.Do I get a ticket if the traffic light camera flashed only once?
Yes you will still receive the ticket. The camera caught you it only has to flash once.

If Cops have cameras on all their cars why cant I use their footage when I am innocent in a traffic case?

That footage was accidentally erased. If Cops have cameras on all their cars why cant I use their footage when I am innocent in a traffic case?
Why can't you? It's evidence. If they won't show it to you, then get your attorney to subpoena it as evidence in your case.
You can - If you go not guilty for an offence you are accused of the Police are obliged to disclose any evidence that they may hold against you. Most likely they will produce the footage as evidence that you did commit the offence. If Cops have cameras on all their cars why cant I use their footage when I am innocent in a traffic case?
1 - Not all cruisers are equipped with cameras.

    2 - You can.

The overwelming odds are that you aren't innocent, but if you are....good luck.
You can...send a letter to the prosecutor's office requesting they provide a full disclosure consisting of the officer's notes/ reports while your at itIf Cops have cameras on all their cars why cant I use their footage when I am innocent in a traffic case?
You can, if you get your attorney to subpoena it. However, you should realize that the cameras only activate when the overhead lights come on in the Police car. That means that happened after the violation took place and the officer decided to stop you.
Because it might prove your innocence.

or a little hairspray on the plate said and the olde tinted bubble covering the number plate.

but all this is illegal off course.

    but watch the movie Transporter.

i have seen a license plate cover designed to make it impossible for cameras to read it. i can't remember where is saw it though. i would imagine that they are illegal. need to check your local laws.
You can't be serious. Here's a tip: Don't run red lights, and you won't get a ticket in the mail. That's even easier than making your plates invisible. How to make my license plate invisible to the Traffic camera?
Ive heard that if you spray hair spray on it, it will make the light reflect off it or something like that. They also sell sprays in car magazines for that. Like motor trend..

There are ways, but they are all illegal. You will just have an officer pull you over simply because they cannot read your plate.

  • I was ticketed by a traffic camera ?

They even have a video online showing me making a right on red (there were no signs saying no right on red) This is my 1st time getting such a ticket. How do i get out of it w/o having 2 pay the $124?I was ticketed by a traffic camera ?
Contest it at the city municipal court. Verify this is correct with the local police station.
Appeal it in court and tell them what you just said here about no posted signs. Try to fight it and get sypathy from the judge if not you'll have to pay...sorry :( And it can't be legal for them to put pictures of you online without your consent I would check into that as well.I was ticketed by a traffic camera ?
if you are sure that there was no sign saying "no right on red" then there are procedures to dispute the ticket - it means appearing before a hearing judge etc. If you are going to have to take a day off and lose pay then you should figure out if it will cost more to pay the ticket or lose your pay.
You will need to show up for your court date and prove to the judge that there is no sign indicating that you cannot make a right turn on red at that intersection.I was ticketed by a traffic camera ?
you can take it to the courts and fight it
    HAHA!!!!

    sucks to be you!!!

what? i thought it was funny. a ticket, by a video. none the less, making a RIGHT HAND TURN!!! on a redlight.

and it still must suck to be him.

What happens when you run a red light with a traffic cam?

I was driving at the speed limit. the light was yellow but turned red right before i reached the line so i was going too fast to stop in time. i slammed on my brakes but ended up in the middle of the interesection. the traffic was just starting to move so i didnt get into an accident and got out. there were two cameras mounted on traffic lights facing each road. not the ones that take pictures with a flash.

so what is going to happen? are the police going to track me down to my house? What happens when you run a red light with a traffic cam?
Sounds like there is no "flash" at that intersection. You're in luck then. The cameras may work, but only for accidents or something like that. The photo enforced intersections will snap a pic of your car, and send a ticket to you in the mail. You should be ok this time!
You probably watch too much TV and believe half the stuff you see there. The chance that anyone was actually looking at the video when you went thru the red light is practically nil, and even if someone saw you they wouldn't be able to make out the license plate - the resolution's not that good on these things. I got caught in Germany several times by the kind of cameras that DO have very good resolution - they record your license plate quite nicely, and usually, you can tell it was you driving the vehicle, as well!!! Luckily, they aren't always working, or I'd have alot more tickets. What happens when you run a red light with a traffic cam?
They send a ticket or court summons to the address linked to your drivers license.

Question: If the light was yellow, why were you still continuing to do the speed limit, yellow means slow down. If the light TURNS yellow when you are within 100-50 ft (depending on speed) then you have enough time to make it through the intersection.
In the middle of the night, the traffic camera thugs are gonna come to your house. First they will TP the whole place. Then they will grab you and stick your head in the microwave on fufll power until you fess and pay up.

By the way, I ain't a traffic camera thug. How the heck should I know what will happen? What happens when you run a red light with a traffic cam?
Worst case you may receive a violation in the mail for running a red light, no the police will not come knocking on you door, unless of course you do get a ticket and dont pay it.
    Probably
if you dont see a flash, you should be good. Those are just traffic cams, not red light cams.

Camera traffic ticket got sent to me, why do I have to pay it?

I own the car, it is titled to me. But I was not driving the car. But the ticket says I have to pay it? Can they do that? If they want to know who was driving the car do I have to tell them who I thought it was? The ticket is $100.00 and if I don't pay by December 3rd it is $130.00

This is a lot of money. Can anyone help me?Camera traffic ticket got sent to me, why do I have to pay it?
What state do you live in? Because there is this website highwayrobbery.com or. Net I forget which one but its free and it shows how you can get out of the ticket legally. You are the registered owner of the vehicle but how can you be responsible for something another person does in your vehicle that's absurd. So if you let your friend borrow your vehicle while you were out of town and he robbed a bank and they didn't catch him and you knew nothing about it would they take you to jail and charge you with the robbery no way. These people don't know what that are talking about they're morons. I have gone to the website and that helped me get out of the ticket. Same situation with Me someone was driving my vehicle and got a red light traffic camera ticket and it got sent to my house. I went to court fought it and won. Go to court dressed appropriately show the judge some respect tell him not guilty wrong defendant bring in your ticket that shows the pictures and it should be as simple as that and he should dismiss it. If he asks you who it is you can choose to exercise your right to remain silent essentially pleading the 5th. It's not against the law to do that not tell them who it is. But obviously if you say you don't know and you really do and they find out that's very bad its considered perjury so just remain silent. Go to the website and get educated because you don't have to pay it if its not you. Its all legal if someone says its not they are idiots this is America it's the land of loopholes. Let me know if it works or pm me
The car is registered to you. For camera tickets, the registered owner is presumed to be the driver, so you are responsible for the ticket. If you choose to identify the actual driver to the authorities, then they may pursue action against that person and drop it against you (it'll depend on state law and procedure). But you absolutely can not get out of it by simply saying "I wasn't the one driving but I'm not going to tell you who did." If you could, everyone and his brother would use that as a defense to avoid any and all culpability. If you don't want to tell the authorities who was driving, then you're responsible for the fine since you're responsible for the car as the registered owner.Camera traffic ticket got sent to me, why do I have to pay it?
The violation is to the vehicle, charged to the registered owner. You're responsible for the summons. I suggest that whoever was driving your auto on that day gets a bill from you. Don't pay it and your registration may be revoked.
In my state you are allowed to "nominate" a driver to pay the fine for you. See if they have this info on the back of the ticket or perhaps a website you can go to for more information. Bottom line is someone is going to be paying - might as well be the person who is guilty.Camera traffic ticket got sent to me, why do I have to pay it?
It's your car, you're responsible for what happens to it. If the driver parked in a handicapped spot you'd be paying an even larger fine and having to get your car out of the impound lot. The fact that you didn't park in the spot yourself would not make a smidgen of difference in that situation either.
Unless you can prove you weren't driving and prove who was you have to pay the ticket. Your car, your responsibility.

Also, if you don't know who is driving your car you are being incredibly negligent.
The photo ticket is like a parking ticket. The owner has to pay it. They won't ask you who was driving the car unless you go to court then you would have to admit that you were driving the car because you would be under oath.
yes, you have to pay it. the ticket is "attached" to the vehicle, not the driver
Ticket goes to the car, and as such, to the car's owner.

I'd recommend getting whoever was driving it to come up with the $100.

    - Stuart
Hi Dena, If It is your car registered to you then you are responsible for it. You have to pay the ticket. If someone took and used your car without your permission then that is theft. If you let someone use it,you can ask them to act responsibly and pay up. Either way the ticket will have to be paid. If the person whom you lent the car to will not pay up I think the only choice you have would be to take them to a small claims court to try and retrieve the money owed. Whatever happens if they don't pay then never lend the person the car again, and use this as a lesson as it could have been worse they could have been in an accident or been caught under the influence etc. I hope this helps, all the best. Accidentally went through a red traffic light after turning a corner - r there always cameras?

turned a corner on my way to work at about 5.30am, no traffic, and went straight through a red light then realised right after id done it. will cameras have seen me? and if so whats the penalty. also - only been driving for 5 months so how many points b4 you have 2 retake the test?Accidentally went through a red traffic light after turning a corner - r there always cameras?
I think you'll find that when you say you "accidentally" went through a red what you actually mean is that you "Carelessly" went through a red light and despite the time of day and whether or not there was a camera there you could have run some poor person over and killed them. Think on ! ! !
Each city is different... in Houston they give you a warning it takes about two weeks to get it via mail. The second time is fine.Accidentally went through a red traffic light after turning a corner - r there always cameras?
nope not always cameras so start praying!!

    u will get 3 points!

but if u get 6 within 2 yrs then retake test!
I really wouldnt worry we have all done it one time or another just some of us admit it some dont, chill out :)Accidentally went through a red traffic light after turning a corner - r there always cameras?
Don't borrow tomorrows troubles for today. Me i would shoot you
In most states you have wither 5 or 6 points before they take your license away. Where I live we don't have cameras on our lights so I can't really help you there
At 5:30 AM you'll know if there's a camera because there'll be a really bright flash. If you didn't see any then most likely your safe.

The penalty is just a fine. A fine to the registered owner of the car, not to the driver because they can't really tell who's driving.
you may want to go ahead and ditch your car in an undesirable neighborhood, report it stolen, also consider changing your appearance. cut your hair and color it.
if the camera was working you would have seen a flash. nothing to worry about really. max 3 points and about 拢50 all done by post . if you dont hear anything after 2 weeks your off scot free good luck
Go back to the same junction and check if there is a camera. Grey rectangular thing on a pole. Then if there is get out and look closely thru both windows of the box. You should be able to tell if it was "live" as you will be able to see the camera unit inside, normally green and white. Speed and traffic light Gatsos only contain a camera box 20-25% of the time so you could be OK even if there is a unit at that junction. Penalty is 3 points if you have and you will receive a Notice of Intended Prosecution in the post within 14 days. Just plead guilty by post and take it on the chin. Not sure about the retake - I think it's 6.
Where do you live? Are you sure they have cameras for that? Some states have outlawed the use off traffic cams for tickets.
If there was a camera you would probably be aware as it would have flashed you.A lot of the older cameras use film which runs out and is not replaced;aced all that often so you may be lucky. More modern equipment uses discs and can run for ages. My penalty for the same offence was a fine of 拢75 and 3 points.I have been driving a lot longer than you but whether it makes a difference I don't know. You don't have to go to court as this is a fixed penalty offence.Be a bit more careful now eh.
No there are not on all lights and sometimes the cameras seen at traffic lights on main roads are for monitoring traffic flow only.If there was no flash then you should be okay.Fingers crossed.
    Not always cameras, be lucky!

In the UK with less than 6 months driving, likelyhood is

拢60 fine, 3 penelty points and all the inconvenience that goes along with it! Worse case senario. Most likely less.
Don't count on seeing the flash. In Maryland we use infra-red flash. All violations are reviewed. If there is a clear violation, a citation is written. Also, in Maryland, no points are awarded. This violation is like a parking ticket.
    no not always

Gettin flashed by a light signal traffic camera?

Ok is it true if you get flashed, when they review it, they don't give you a ticket if you had passengers because its invading privacy, they weren't the ones at fault. Or do you get in more trouble if you had a friend and say a baby. California 5ptsGettin flashed by a light signal traffic camera?
Passengers vs. solo is immaterial. The infraction is solely the responsibility of the driver, as they are the only ones who can affect what the vehicle does. As for privacy concerns, don't kid yourself. They may blur any faces that are not the driver in the ticket packet, but that would be the extent of things.Gettin flashed by a light signal traffic camera?

i don't think they do, i haven't heard of anywhere have them.

Like Timbo said, you can usually see them.

However, if you are caught jumping the lights, they will send you the ticket in the post, which is usually 3 points and a fine.Do regular traffic lights in rural areas in england have cameras in which issue pointsfor jumping a red li?
Courts and the police issue points against your licence, cameras merely take photographs.
To be honest most of the lights in the country dont have them. if you do you can stop them easy

What do u think about these traffic lights w/cameras?

now they got u that way....What do u think about these traffic lights w/cameras?
its a f*ckin scam they want to get money from us!
Another way for govt. to get money from us. We did'nt ask for it, we don't want it but we have to live with it. Guilty til proven innocent. Same way for "cell phone cop's". Would I get a ticket if the traffic light turned yellow when I was in the middle of the intersection?

I was in Newport Beach California and noticed that the intersection I crossed has a red light camera. It was still green when I crossed the intersection but half way through it turned yellow, there was a lot of traffic but I managed to get passed the intersection before it turned red. I had to stop after the intersection just above the second cameras because of traffic. Would I still get a ticket for this?Would I get a ticket if the traffic light turned yellow when I was in the middle of the intersection?
As long as your across the limit line or first line of a crosswalk before the light turns red, you're clear.

If the light turns red and you are forced to stop in the middle of the intersection and hold up traffic, that's called grid locking and is an expensive ticket.

nope u r cool dnt worryWould I get a ticket if the traffic light turned yellow when I was in the middle of the intersection?
The camera will take a pic if the light was red before your crossed the intersection. You will not be ticketed if the light was green or yellow before you crossed that first white line.
Absolutely not. Would I get a ticket if the traffic light turned yellow when I was in the middle of the intersection?
A yellow light is a warning to drivers that the red light will be soon. It is not illegal in the least to drive through a yellow light.
WELL IF YOUR IN THE MIDDLE YOU CANT GO BACK SO MUST KEEP ON GOING SO NO YOU WONT GET A TICKET THAT'S Y THEY MADE YELLOW LIGHTS.

When do the traffic camera's flash?

Hey guys, so i have been having a debate with brother about traffic camera's and when they take pictures. I think that it flashes everytime th light turns red and he believes that it flashes when someone goes over the white line. Does anyone know which is right or wrong!? Thanks! When do the traffic camera's flash?
There is a sensor in the road that picks up cars passing over it. This sensor is positioned at the intersection boundary (nothing to do with the white line). The camera electronics are wired to the red light indication. When power is applied to the red light (by the traffic signal equipment) AND a car passes over the in-road sensor, the camera electronics takes your picture (usually 3 images in quick succession). There is usually a short delay before the picture is actually taken to remove any doubt about the red light violation. When do the traffic camera's flash?
I don't know for sure, but if they only flashed when the light turns red, then the camera wouldn't capture anyone going through the light after the moment it turns red. So I think it just flashes when someone goes past the line. When do the traffic camera's flash?
    anything after red

What does the traffic light camera take a picture of if you do something?

does it take a picture of the person in the car? of the license plate?

also, does anything say the town you got it from? or location (like a street)? What does the traffic light camera take a picture of if you do something?
It takes a picture of your plate/vehicle. It does give the exact intersection you were at. Also, you can view the video online and see for yourself when the photo was taken. What does the traffic light camera take a picture of if you do something?

do they play video the camera has? do they ask if we think we're guilty or innocent? do they ask what we say happened? what do they do if someone is innocent or guilty? stuff like thatWhat happens when you go to court for traffic light camera?
there is no reason to go to court for a red light ticket. just pay the fine and be done with it. there are no points to drivers licence.
the camera has pictures of your car and plate going through the intersection. usually at least three pictures.
there is no way to win (not guilty) unless you could prove that your car was in another state and this car is a ghost double. it does not matter who was driving, the owner still pays the ticket.
The judge can view the photograph or video recording.

The court doesn't care if you "feel" guilty or not. They only care if your vehicle was photographed entering the intersection after the light turned red.

They usually let you pay a reduced fine if you do it quickly. If you wait the fine goes up. If you go to court you also pay court fees. What happens when you go to court for traffic light camera?
Sometimes they just send you a picture and ask you to pay. At court, when its your turn, they will ask you what happened. If the video is played or not depends if the judge allows it as evidence or not.
The camera will testify against you. What happens when you go to court for traffic light camera?
you don't have to go to court just pay the ticket.

Are those little black/Grey Boxes on top of traffic lights, sensors or cameras?

    Hey

I was just wondering if anyone could help me. I was out driving the other night and i have only recently passed my test, and i think i may have ran a red light, there was a little grey camera type box on the traffic light, i was that worried i had to go back and have a look what it was. My dad said it was probably just a sensor, but i'm really not to sure, does anyone have a clue?

I didn't see a light flash or anything when i went throught it, and there was no gasto like cameras about. Sorry im just really worried.

Thank you for any answersAre those little black/Grey Boxes on top of traffic lights, sensors or cameras?
They are sensors which detect motion. which in turn activate the lights
ha these are only sensors, but be more careful they are making new lights with cameras built inside the red light and wen you brake these red lights it will take your pic..... so if u do brake a red light make sure ta smileAre those little black/Grey Boxes on top of traffic lights, sensors or cameras?
a light sensor for police ambulance and fire trucks. this sensor turns the lights red to clear the intersection.
ITS ONLY A SENSOR ALTHOUGH WE HAVE IN SCOTLAND A BIG SPEED LIKE CAMERA TO TAKE PHOTOS AT BLACK SPOTS AS YOU SAY AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS BUT AS I SAY ITS BIGAre those little black/Grey Boxes on top of traffic lights, sensors or cameras?
This was an infra red sensor, monitors the flow of traffic to sequence change of lights.

All legal UK traffic cameras are and must be coloured yellow by law.
    Little boxes sensors.

    Bigger boxes cameras.
Rather than worry about the sensor, worry about the fact that you ran a red light and could have killed someone.

Am I going to get a traffic ticket?

I by accident made a left hand turn, which i couldn't do, onto a one way street. There was a traffic camera looking onto that one way street but there was no flash or anything. Someone told me that this isn't that uncommon in this area. Do you think I will get a ticket?Am I going to get a traffic ticket?
i doubt you would get a ticket because i did something like that and i was thinking that i would get one too but i didn't even after a year.Am I going to get a traffic ticket?
no ur notAm I going to get a traffic ticket?
Nah. As long there wasn't oncoming traffic or anyone reporting it then it's okay. I believe it's a common mistake. Must be scary knowing you're driving in the opposite direction of the street.
It's possible that it was a camera to catch speeders. You probably won't because cameras aren't that sophisticated. And if you do, say it was your cousin driving the car.

Do you like the idea of traffic light cameras to catch speeding motorists or ...>>>?

drivers who run thru red lights ?Do you like the idea of traffic light cameras to catch speeding motorists or ...%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;?
    NO!!!

And let me tell you why.

There has been research done on accidents at intersections, and here is what was found:

The surest way to reduce accidents is to increase the time lenght of yellow lights, as well as the lag time between the red light coming on for one direction and the green light coming on for the cross direction. By adding 1 or 2 seconds, they could easily reduce the number of accidents.

Now, here is a little fact about the traffic cameras you may not know:

When camreas have been installed at intersections, municipalities in those areas have actually REDUCED the length of yellow lights, thus increasing the number of drivers who get pics snapped as they run a now more rapidly triggering red.

These lights are billed as safety devices and if used in conjunction with a longer yellow lights, I would support them whole heartedly. However, they are actually being used as revenue streams and that is not what they were designed for.
i don't like traffic light cameras !!!!!!!hate them all!!!!!!!!!Do you like the idea of traffic light cameras to catch speeding motorists or ...%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;?
    ASOLUTELY
Hell no, I live in fear of them. Some towns have them more than others, especially rich towns bc they know the people can afford the $390 ticket not to mention the huge hit to their insurance for the next 3 years. I talked my way out of one in court once. People go to www.ticketassassin.com for help.Do you like the idea of traffic light cameras to catch speeding motorists or ...%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;?
Yes I like them because I ride a motorcycle and I don't won't some jerk run a red like and hit me.
Yes. How would you feel if somebody run a red light and this person hit you and then leave the scene of the accident? I work for one of the largest insurance companies in the word and trust me, we get a lot of these type of accident. Sometimes, people die from it. Put yourself in the victim's position.
I don't care one way or another.
they are all been done today almost in all modern cities of the world.
Not at all, it's like they are suppose to serve and protect but yet they try to get on us innocents more and more just so they can eat donuts in freedom.
    thumbs up!
Its a good thing Fiji doesnt have the "speedy camera" thing
I do like this idea and encourage ALL to accept it !

Don't you like to save your selves from danger of some "crazy"drivers who doesn't care about you ?!!!!
I think a lot of it is just revenue raising for governments... and they dont seem to put it back into the roads, it also has not taken away from the amount of highway patrol when there are very few walking the beat.......... my opinon only...

    ..
I don't like being on camera without my knowledge period. it is an invasion of my privacy, it sucks and pretty soon . they are going to replace police with cameras in the sky on the interstates, on the street lights. it is going to be bad before long. computers and cameras and microphones and sattellites are going to make our lives miserable. before to much longer.

    www===beastnet.
Yes I do like that idea a lot......I have no problem with them being there
I like it because they can also catch other things going on, car jacking, robberies, etc...
    not really, lol
Well working in the court system I see the criminal justice side of them. We have had a lot of accidents where the prosecutors have subpoenaed the video and found that the supposed guilty party is acutally quite innocent and the person claiming that they are innocent is actually at fault. We have only had a couple of tickets written because of red light runners caught on video in the last few years. I don't see a down side to these cameras at all. In fact I think a few more in random areas, not necessarily for traffic, would be a great idea. Could possibly deter criminals from doing what they do and/or be used in court. I am sure I will receive some thumbsdowns on this but oh well... 15 years ago I would of been against them too, I used to be a bad kid...

  • Traffic Light Cameras.. Running a red light?

Hey just wanted to know , this light i was at turned from yellow to red very very quickly, it had a camera on it for red lights (for tickets) And I stopped very short and passed the little line, then it turned red while i backed up , does that mean they will give me a ticket or Does it only work if your up pretty far. (this is in virginia)Traffic Light Cameras.. Running a red light?
Not usually, you didn't run the intersection so they can't really get you for running the red light. You did stop, and plenty of people stop past the white line.Traffic Light Cameras.. Running a red light?
No, If you didn't go out into the intersection you'll be ok.

How do you know whether traffic lights have a camera to flash you if you run a red?

I think I went through a red today as it changed as I went through - how do you know if the traffic lights have a camera? I'm worried I'll get a ticket. How do you know whether traffic lights have a camera to flash you if you run a red?
Red Light Cameras have a flash when they take your picture, even in daylight.

Most cities iwth red light cameras have a sign posted on or near the pole where the camera is, to let motorists know about the camera. How do you know whether traffic lights have a camera to flash you if you run a red?
Well... Photo intersections usually display a warning sign that cameras are installed. The cameras that cities install are so high tech that it takes pictures and video with statistics. If your Hyundai Santa Fe is already in the intersection but crossed the limit line before the light turns red ... No worries.
Be advised that actual officers do survey camera footage for violations, so just because you don't see a flash... for example turning right with out stopping on a red light !

they aren't on top of every light, and it doesn't matter if they are coming out of the ground or not

In Minnesota do traffic camera's work?

I saw a car run a red light at a four way intersection. There was no cops around to pull him over. My question is do these traffic light cameras actually capture violators in Minnesota? because I heard the Minnesota Supreme court knocked down the use of traffic lights in atleast Minneapolis saying it violated peoples rights. Will that person get a ticket in the mail? Isn't it ridiculous people can get away with this type of reckless behavior? In Minnesota do traffic camera's work?
No! It's ridiculous that the government has video lottery machines.

Essentially that's what these are, they only create revenue not stop crime. Sure it may be somewhat of a deterrent but really ask yourself....who benefits? In Minnesota do traffic camera's work?

I want to appeal a traffic light camera fine in the UK?

Recently, iv been flashed by a traffic light camera at 17 mph as it thought that iv crossed the light and it flashed, as i never crossed the lights i stopped at the traffic lights just before it flashed i have no idea why it flashed ??

    Can some Please advise

thank youI want to appeal a traffic light camera fine in the UK?
If you were stopped at or before the white line then this will show on the picture and you will get nothing through the post.

If you crossed the line then you may well get a NIP in the post and if you were over the line quite simply you are going to get done.

Red light cameras are not speed cameras so it does not matter what speed you were doing - if you were in its range and in the wrong place then they will get you.

    a
First of all the camera take two photos and the second will show clearly if you have or have not gone through at red. The first goes offf when the light is at red and usually after a second then the second on goes at a fixed point showing you have gone through at red. Traffic light cameras are not speed cameras. if you are telling the truth each shot will show you at the line.I want to appeal a traffic light camera fine in the UK?
If you stopped and the camera did for some unknown reason (which I have never come across) take a picture, you will not be in it.

The picture always shows the stop line and the signal and any vehicles past the line.

The picture also states how far into the red a driver had crossed.
You have to wait for your notification to arrive - assuming it was you that it flashed, seems unlikely if you were doing 17mph.

Once the notification arrives, it will have the details in it about how to appeal.I want to appeal a traffic light camera fine in the UK?
it could halved flashed at a car coming the other way do not worry until in the unlikely event you get a ticket
yeah right pull the other one! It wouldn't have flashed you, if you had stopped!

The best way is to prove someone else was driving your car at the time. Have that person sign a notarized statement testifying to that.

Do all camera traffic lights have a flash?

I came up to this red light around 9/930 PM and I was literally the only car stopped at the light. I wanted to make a left but the light didn't turn green for me at all. I waited like 5 to 7 minutes and just treated the light like a stop sign. So after I ran it my friend then tells me there was a camera! But i saw no flash...I know it was dumb, but do you think I am okay or am I going to get fined?Do all camera traffic lights have a flash?
I hate that. I used to drive a truck locally in town, and it was so frustrating when the light would go through two cycles and the turn light would never come on. I've run them before at night, otherwise I'd be sitting there 'til morning. I don't know about the camera, we were lucky here that they took the stupid things down.
They don't have flashes, but you should be okay. The camera's work with night vision so it's more of a video camera than a picture camera . You probably weren't a big deal to the authority's so unless they're really bored it wont matter. Next time try scooting up and braking a little to hit the sensor. During late hours certain lights work on a sensor bases the same system which controls the pedestrian lights. The sensor works like the automatic doors at stores. If they don't detect a car there the lights wont change. Do you remember jumping up and down in front of the sensors as a kid to get the doors to open? That's sort of what you have to do with your car. Move it forward to get on the sensors radar. Good luck!Do all camera traffic lights have a flash?
I'd go with no. I think you'll be ok. No they don't all have flashes. At least I've never been flashed in Chicago.
haha i totally kno how you feel ive been throught that but you have nothing to worry about unless it has that lil flash it dosent have a camera and even thow half the time thers nobody monitoring them ive ran plenty of light lol and h avent got one ticketDo all camera traffic lights have a flash?
I would assume no. Due to safety reasons. The flash can temporary blind or distract the motorist. However, depending of the site it might be well lit for the camera. Some cams are pretty sensitive to light so that determines the amount of illumination is need it.
    No.

Traffic lights for vehicles or pedestrians normally have two main lights鈥攁 red light that means 'stop' and a green (or sometimes white for pedestrians) light that means 'go' (or, more correctly, 'proceed with caution'); the use of these colors are thought to originate from nautical right-of-way[citation needed]. Usually, the red light contains some orange in its hue, and the green light contains some blue, to provide some support for people with red-green color blindness. In most countries there is also a yellow (colloquial term) or amber(official term) light, which when on by itself and not flashing means stop if able to do so safely. In some systems, a flashing amber means that a motorist may go ahead with care if the road is clear, giving way to pedestrians and to other road vehicles that may have priority. A flashing red is treated as a regular stop sign.

There may be additional lights (usually a green arrow or "filter") to authorize turns. In the U.S., a turn permitted by such a light is called a protected left or protected right. A left turn light preceding the opposing through movement is called a leading left turn because it leads the opposing through green light (likewise, a left turn arrow that follows the opposing through movement is known as a lagging left turn). In Canada, a turn that is authorized before the opposing traffic is called an advanced green and a green arrow at the end of the phase is called a delayed green. A leading left turn, advanced green, lagging left, or delayed green can apply either to only one direction, allowing both turning and through traffic while opposing traffic is stopped, or to both directions, allowing left turns from opposing directions while all through traffic is stopped.

Traffic lights for special vehicles (such as buses or trams) may use other systems, such as vertical vs. horizontal bars of white light.

4-state lights warn traffic that it will shortly be free to move.In most countries, the sequence is red (stop), green (go), amber (prepare to stop). In the UK [1], New Zealand [2] and Canada [3], amber officially means 'stop' (unless it would cause an accident to do so) but in practice, is treated as 'prepare to stop'. In the UK, Hong Kong, Macau, Pakistan, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Denmark, Iceland and Israel, among others, the sequence includes red and amber together before green, which helps draw attention to the impending change to green, to allow drivers to prepare to move off. (In many of these jurisdictions, such as the UK, it is customary for drivers to select neutral and/or use the handbrake at red lights; the additional phase gives the driver time to select first gear or release the handbrake before the light turns green). The single flashing amber signal is used in the UK and Australia at Pelican crossings. Some older signals in New England, mainly near Boston, use the red + amber phase to signify an all-pedestrian phase [4] ("Barnes dance"). These were installed before pedestrian signals came to the area, and before the national standard prohibited them.

    Turning signals and rules

In some instances, traffic may turn after stopping on a red (right in right-driving countries; left in left-driving countries), provided they yield to the pedestrians and other vehicles. In some cases which generally disallow this, a sign next to the traffic light indicates that it is allowed at a particular intersection. Conversely, jurisdictions which generally allow this might forbid it at a particular intersection with a "no turn on red" sign, or might put a green arrow to indicate specifically when a right turn is allowed without having to yield to pedestrians (this is usually when traffic from the perpendicular street is making a left turn onto one's street and thus no pedestrians are allowed in the intersection anyway). Some jurisdictions allow turning on red in the opposite direction (left in right-driving countries; right in left-driving countries) from a one-way road onto another one-way road; some of these even allow these turns from a two-way road onto a one-way road. Also differing is whether a red arrow prohibits turns; some jurisdictions require a "no turn on red" sign in these cases. A study in the State of Illinois concluded that allowing drivers to proceed straight on red after stopping, at specially posted T-intersections where the intersecting road went only left, was dangerous. Proceeding straight on red at T-intersections where the intersecting road went only left was once legal in Mainland China with right-hand traffic provided that such movement would not interfere with other traffic, but when the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China took effect on 1 May 2004, such movement was outlawed.

In Ireland, France, Spain, and Romania permission to turn right (or more rarely to turn left or to go straight on) on a red light is indicated by a flashing amber arrow (cars do not have to stop but must yield way to other cars and pedestrians). In New Zealand, turning on a red light is forbidden. However dedicated signals for turning are usually used for the same effect.

Another distinction is between intersections that have dedicated signals for turning across the flow of opposing traffic and those that do not. Such signals are called dedicated left-turn lights in the United States and Canada (since opposing traffic is on the left). With dedicated left turn signals, a left-pointing arrow turns green when traffic may turn left without conflict, and turns red or disappears otherwise. Such a signal is referred to as a "protected" signal if it has its own red phase; a "permissive" signal does not have such a feature. Three standard versions of the permissive signal exist: One version is a horizontal bar with five lights - the green and yellow arrows are located between the standard green and yellow lights. A vertical 5-light bar holds the arrows underneath the standard green light (in this arrangement, the yellow arrow is sometimes omitted, leaving only the green arrow below the solid green light, or possibly an LED based device capable of showing both green and yellow arrows within a single lamp housing). A third type is known as a "doghouse" or "cluster head" - a vertical column with the two normal lights is on the right hand side of the signal, a vertical column with the two arrows is located on the left, and the normal red signal is in the middle above the two columns. In a fourth type, sometimes seen at intersections in Ontario and Quebec, Canada, there is no dedicated left-turn lamp per se. Instead, the normal green lamp flashes rapidly, indicating permission to go straight as well as make a left turn in front of opposing traffic, which is being held by a steady red lamp. (This "flashing green" can be somewhat startling and confusing to drivers not familiar with this system.) Another interesting practice seen at least in Ontario is that cars wishing to turn left that arrived after the left turn signal ended can do so during the amber phase, as long as there is enough time to make a safe turn.

Generally, a dedicated left-turn signal is illuminated at the beginning of the green phase of the green-yellow-red-green cycle. This allows left-turn traffic, which often consists of just a few cars, to vacate the intersection quickly before giving priority to vehicles travelling straight. This increases the throughput of left-turn traffic while reducing the number of drivers, perhaps frustrated by long waits in heavy traffic for opposing traffic to clear, attempting to make an illegal left turn on red. If there is no left-turn signal, the law requires one to yield to oncoming traffic and turn when the intersection is clear and it is safe to do so. Nevertheless, it is increasingly and disturbingly common in at least the U.S. to see drivers who do not yield in the absence of a dedicated signal, cutting off traffic that has right-of-way and is starting to head across the intersection. In the U.S., many older inner-city and rural areas do not have dedicated left-turn lights, while most newer suburban areas have them. Such lights tend to decrease the overall efficiency of the intersection as it becomes congested, although it makes intersections safer by reducing the risk of head-on collisions and may even speed up through traffic, but if a significant amount of traffic is turning, a dedicated turn signal helps eliminate congestion.

Pedestrian crossing light with loudspeaker for the blind.Intersections with dedicated protected signals occasionally have what is known as "yellow trap", "lag-trap", or "left turn trap" (in right-driving countries). It occurs when vehicles are permitted to make left turns on normal green lights, or when one direction has a dedicated turn signal and the other direction doesn't.

For example, an intersection has dedicated left-turn signals for traffic travelling north, but not south. The southbound traffic gets a red light so northbound traffic can make a left turn, but the straight northbound traffic continues to get a green light. A southbound driver who had entered the intersection earlier will now be in a predicament, since they have no idea whether straight traffic for both directions is becoming red, or just their direction. The driver will now have to check the traffic light behind them, which is often impossible from the viewing angle of a driver's seat. This can also happen when emergency vehicles or railroads pre-empt normal signal operation.

Although motorcycles and scooters in most jurisdictions follow the same traffic signal rules for left turns as do cars and trucks, some places, such as Taiwan, have different rules. In these areas, it is not permitted for such small and often hard-to-see vehicles to turn left in front of oncoming traffic on certain high-volume roads when there is no dedicated left-turn signal. Instead, in order to make a left turn, the rider moves to the right side of the road, travels through the first half of the intersection on green, then slows down and stops directly in front of the line of cars on the driver's right waiting to travel across the intersection, which are of course being held by a red light. There is often a white box painted on the road in this location to indicate where the riders should group. The rider turns the bike 90 degrees to the left from the original direction of travel and proceeds along with the line of cars when the red light turns green, completing the left turn. This procedure improves safety because the rider never has to cross oncoming traffic, which is particularly important given the much greater likelihood of injury when a cycle is hit by a car or truck.

In the UK: traffic can proceed on a full green (whole signal disc is green) if safe to do so, but traffic turning right may be in conflict with traffic coming in the opposite direction. Traffic lights only applicable to traffic going a certain direction are called "indicative green arrows" and are shown as a green arrow pointing in the direction that traffic is allowed to proceed. It is illegal to turn in any other direction unless there is also a full green signal. These signals imply that it is safe to proceed in the indicated direction as there will be no conflicting traffic flow. This is commonly used at junctions where traffic needs to turn right across the junction where there is no oncoming traffic. A filter green light is a green arrow signal displayed together with a red signal, and indicates that vehicles may proceed in that direction (only) and that all other traffic must stop. A filter is often used to permit a left turn during a period in the signaling cycle when it is safe to do so, but can be used for other purposes.

A traffic signal in Halifax, Nova Scotia with specially-shaped lights to assist people with color blindness.Traffic light failure in most jurisdictions must be handled by drivers as a priority-to-the-right intersection in both right-hand drive Europe and some states of left-hand Australia, or a four-way stop elsewhere, pending the arrival of a police officer to direct traffic.

Some jurisdictions (e.g. Switzerland, France, Austria and some states of Australia), however, have additional right-of-way signs mounted above the traffic lights (below in Australia); these take effect when the lights are no longer active. In the UK, drivers simply treat the junction as being uncontrolled when traffic lights fail, giving way as appropriate, unless a police officer is present. In 1999, concerned that some traffic lights would fail as a result of the Y2K bug, some jurisdictions installed emergency unfoldable stop signs at intersections[citation needed].

In some countries, pedestrian traffic lights include a type of siren or warbler, which sounds during the red phase, in order to alert visually impaired pedestrians that it is safe to cross. These are generally set to a timer and only sound at day time, to avoid annoying residents. In the UK a "beeping" sounder indicates a green light. Some other intersections include a white strobe light mounted inside the red light that flashes every few seconds when the light is red.
