A lot of the time, this is the case.

Sometimes there is no Legal reason to pay the camera ticket.
No. Fighting these is really tough. There are some constitutional and due process issues you can use, but your best defense is either to prove it isn't your car or that you weren't driving. If they have a picture of you behind the wheel of your car running a red light, your chances of beating it are slim. There is a movement now in many areas to have these removed based on a legal challenge. If you research this you may come up with some ammunition to fight this.Fighting a ticket given by a traffic light camera?
[preface: I own an online defensive driving school - not going to plug it here, that's just tacky]
You can go to court, but not under the premise of the camera not appearing. Your options are to prove it wasn't you behind the wheel (or it wasn't your vehicle) though both are unlikely given the fact that they'll have your picture and you don't seem to be disputing that it was you nor that you actually ran the light. These often don't end in favor of the driver in court.
You could consider a defensive driving course. 6 hours of state-mandated lectures to keep the points off your record and your insurance lower. Painfully boring? Usually. But far better than paying for increased insurance and the tests aren't terrible difficult. If you do an online program you can start and stop whenever it's convenient for you. Just make sure (1) It's state-approved (nothing would suck more than to take the course and not get credit), (2) they offer live support in the event you have a melt down/mishap and (3) use a brand you recognize and trust. There are a TON of fly by night outfits.
Sorry to hear you got nabbed. Good luck!

When you go to court ask the judge can you automatically get off because the camera can't come testify... He'll let you knowFighting a ticket given by a traffic light camera?
you could do what people in Texas did to get rid of traffic light cameras. take out your .40 and shoot them. The city will stop putting them up after awhile.
